WrestleCon Explains Decision To Invite Rick Steiner Back To Its Events

Writer Daniel Davis

Rick Steiner made headlines for all the wrong reasons during WrestleMania week this year. Impact Wrestling's Gisele Shaw revealed that when walking past Steiner at WrestleCon, the Hall of Famer yelled derogatory terms at her due to the fact she is transgender. Steiner is yet to publicly apologize for what he said, nor has he attempted to explain himself.

Rick Steiner Will Return To WrestleCon

However, it has been revealed by WrestleCon promoter Michael Bochicchio (via F4W Online) that Steiner attempted to apologize behind the scenes. Bochicchio has issued a lengthy statement after it was revealed Steiner will be in attendance for a WrestleCon event in Detroit next month, the first time he has been invited back since being removed from the remaining WrestleMania weekend's events due to what he said to Shaw.

The reveal that Steiner is once again welcome at WrestleCon understandably received quite a bit of backlash over the weekend, hence the statement from Bochicchio. “He apologized to members of the Wrestlecon staff, he apologized to many of his fellow wrestlers, and offered apologies to the members of Impact Wrestling staff that chose to hear from him at a private mediated event,” Bochicchio explains in the statement. However, Shaw chose not to attend Steiner's apology to Impact staff.

Shaw Has Not Accepted Steiner's Apology

“Giselle chose not to attend Rick's apology, which we 100 percent understood, supported, and still support to this day. She had no obligation to hear anything from Rick nor should she ever feel obligated to accept any apology from him.” Shaw clearly doesn't forgive Steiner for the heinous things he said to her over WrestleMania weekend which, as Bochicchio says, is entirely understandable.

Bochicchio believes Steiner has learned from his mistakes, hence why he has been invited back to WrestleCon. However, the promoter adds if he makes comments like that again in the future, he will be banned from WrestleCon for good and won't be getting a third chance. Whether he should be even getting a second chance, especially since Shaw clearly hasn't forgiven him for what happened, is very much up for debate.
