Where To Find (& Summon) Shovel The Quasit In Baldur's Gate 3

Writer Emma Terry

Shovel is a cheeky little Quasit familiar who can be summoned to assist the party in battle, but only after tracking down her individual spell scroll.

Where To Find (& Summon) The Quasit Shovel In Baldur's Gate 3

In Baldur's Gate 3, there are several members who can be added to your party and aid you on your adventure, including familiars, one of whom is known as Shovel The Quasit. Unlike the Find Familiar spell that allows players to summon various animal companions, Shovel must be summoned through their own spell scroll.

As stated, Shovel is a Quasit, meaning she will be much more valuable to the party in a fight than some of the other familiar pets in Baldur's Gate 3. Though Shovel's summoning spell has the chance of showing up in a few merchant inventories, it's rare to find it that way, so it's best to track it down to the one location it's guaranteed to be.

Luckily, the Scroll location is not too difficult to track down while completing mainline story quests and can be found fairly early on in the game. While working through the Blighted Village, players will likely come across the Necromancy of Thay side quest in one of the houses, specifically the one right below the Blighted Village fast-travel point when reviewing the map.

Following this quest is what will ultimately lead the party to where the Scroll for Shovel resides. Once entering the basement of the house, players will need to search the room for a lever that will reveal a hidden door.

If having trouble finding the lever to open the door, check near the crates to the left of the large bookshelf. It should be found on the wall there. Simply interact with it to trigger the hidden passageway.

Once opened, follow the path down to an open area with several caskets lying around. A few undead enemies will likely populate upon entering the room, but they're fairly low level and something like Turn Undead, which is an action exclusive to the Cleric Class in Baldur's Gate 3, can quickly end this fight.

Once all the enemies are removed, check the caskets lying around for various loot items. Note that some of the caskets may have busted open during the fight, but their contents should be lying around in that same spot.

When summoning Shovel, if done so before passing through the talking mirror, she will give you some advice about using a particular item to treat burns. Do not listen to her. The mirror is going to quiz you before letting you pass through and this is one of the questions it will ask. Shovel is a bit of a troublemaker, so best not to listen to any advice she tries to give you. If you listen to Shovel and use her answer, the mirror will mark you as an enemy and unleash an attack.

As for the scroll to summon Shovel, if facing the room from the spot from where you entered, there will be a casket immediately to the right. Open it to find a Summon Quasit Scroll specifically for Shovel. Once obtained, a Wizard may learn the Scroll like any other Spell Scroll.

She will ask you upon the first summon if you want to change her name to Fork or Basket, but this choice is completely optional and won't affect anything. Finally, summoning her will also unlock the Rude, Crude, and Full of Attitude Achievement in Baldur's Gate 3.
