According to The Hollywood Reporter, the real reason Melissa George didn't become a Grey's Anatomy regular is because the series took a different creative direction than expected after Brooke Smith (better known as Dr. Erica Hahn) left. Whoever you believe it's safe to say that all her fans were sad to see her go.

Since leaving Grey's Anatomy, George has seemingly only gone on to bigger and better things, nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television for her work on In Treatment.
