The 10 Funniest Memes About Moon Knight
Matthew Cannon
Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight is proving to be a success with audiences, as evidenced by the many hilarious memes fans constantly post on Twitter.
Two episodes in, and Moon Knight seems to be a smashing success. The latest series from Marvel Studios follows a man with dissociative identity disorder who serves as the avatar for the Egyptian god Khonshu. Like other MCU properties, the show blends action with non-stop humor, opening the door for audiences to enjoy and exploit its comedy.
Indeed, many fans on Twitter are enjoying the show and expressing their love through several hilarious memes. Some are funnier than others, but all these memes increase engagement for the show, putting it on its way to becoming one of the MCU's most successful streaming efforts.
Mondays Are The Worst
Protagonist Marc Spector has several powers in the comics, including mastery over hand-to-hand combat and weapons. The show hasn't explored the full extent of his abilities, but audiences get a glance during his battle with one of Arthur Harrow's mystical jackals. These creatures have been Moon Knight's greatest threats so far, making them a favorite of audiences.
Twitter user @IRWpodcast uses the image of Moon Knight running away from the jackal to craft a funny and accurate meme about people's dislike for Mondays. It would perhaps be equally fun to make a meme of Mark fighting and defeating the Monday jackal. Maybe in the future?
4-For-1 Special
Moon Knight features a lot of comedy, mainly from Steven's clumsy and awkward interactions with other characters. Indeed, Steven cracks joke after joke, even if most of them aren't humorous to him. It might be easy to think the show is asking audiences to laugh at Steven, but Oscar Isaac's performance elevates the material, compelling fans to laugh along with him instead.
And laugh fans do. Twitter user @SuMmeR10183398 made not one but four memes about Moon Knight. Two of the memes poke fun at Steven's clumsiness, while the others are thirsting for Isaac, notorious internet boyfriend. Millions of fans worldwide probably agree with the user's assessments.
Poor Steven
One of the most intriguing aspects of Moon Knight's character is his dissociative identity disorder. Several powerful heroes and villains have double identities, but Moon Knight's disorder comes with multiple personalities co-existing within one body. The show has only shown two, Steven and Marc, but there's plenty of time to feature Jake.
In the show, Steven had considerable trouble adjusting to Marc and Khonshu, feeling overwhelmed by their voice inside his head. Twitter user @LENNIECON made a hilarious meme that perfectly captures the love/hate dynamic between the three characters. Honestly, this depiction is as accurate as it comes.
Trust Me, Bruv
Moon Knight quickly establishes Khonshu as one of the most powerful gods from Heliopolis. The tall and imposing figure is genuinely terrifying, and F. Murray Abraham's excellent voice work makes the god all the more awe-inspiring.
Khonshu has a very direct approach to dealing with Steven, often referring to him as an "idiot" or a "fool;" however, in typical almighty god behavior, he still expects Steven to listen to and obey him. Twitter user @hoodedmihoart and their meme are perfect representations of Khnshu's behavior towards Steve, and the use of the word "bruv" gets them extra points for accuracy.
Steven Vs. Marc
Moon Knight is one of the most complex characters in Marvel canon, and the show is doing him justice by exploring his mental health issues. Oscar Isaac, who's giving one of the best performances in Phase 4 of the MCU, succeeds in making Steven and Marc different, making audiences fall for the former while somewhat resenting the latter.
Twitter user @_FandomDork_ accurately summarizes how most fans feel after episode two, when Marc permanently takes over the body, relegating Steven to the background. It's easy to see that Marc isn't evil per se and is actually a victim like Steven, but that doesn't make the meme any less funny.
It Was Moon Knight All Along
Episode two features Steven finally understanding the situation by talking to the man in the mirror, AKA Marc. Steven also learns that his body is the physical avatar for Khonshu, meaning the Egyptian god grants him a set of still-unexplained abilities.
The Spider-Man pointing meme is perfect for multiple situations, but using it on Moon Knight is ideal for capturing the character's particular situation. Twitter user @MarvelMeme5 understands this, resulting in a funny and true meme that successfully brings two Marvel franchises together.
Superhero Landing!
There's no doubt that Deadpool is one of the most irreverent characters in Marvel comics. His big-screen adaptation, played by Ryan Reynolds, is equally subversive and energetic, and his movies are full of quotable moments. One of the most memorable ones is the "superhero landing" scene where Deadpool mocks the whole idea.
Moon Knight has its superhero landing scene starring Mr. Knight. He aces the landing but can't hold the pose and falls to his side. Twitter user @Nercopolis makes a meme about Deadpool's reaction to Mr. Knight's clumsiness, and it's pretty spot-on, although the Merc with a Mouth would probably openly mock and bully Mr. Knight for his incompetence.
I'm Starting With The Man In The Mirror
The relationship between Marc and Steven will surely play a prominent role in Moon Knight. Indeed, audiences have already gotten a glimpse of how different they are, and their opposing views will probably keep clashing in the next four episodes, especially as Marc uses his extreme and violent ways to recover the scarab.
Twitter user @QuidVacuo_ found the perfect way to capture the Steven/Marc dynamic in meme form, and it's absolutely beautiful. The fact that they used Marvel darling Chris Hemsworth to do it makes the meme all the more impressive and hilarious.
Respect For Crawley
In the comics, Bertrand Crawley is a homeless man living in New York City. He often works as an informant for Moon Knight and considers him a close friend. Crawley acts overly dramatic, believing himself a member of the English aristocracy rather than a homeless man.
The show presents a street performer who Steven treats like a confidant. It's unclear if this man is Crawley, but chances are he is, and Twitter user @blippans has the perfect way of honoring him. Their meme uses the post-credits scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to shine a much-deserved spotlight on Crawley, Moon Knight's unsung hero.
The Crossover To End All Crossovers
Sailor Moon is one of the most beloved anime series of all time. The series centers on the hilariously relatable Usagi Tsukino, a young girl and the reincarnation of the Princess of the Moon Kingdom, who can transform into the legendary warrior Sailor Moon.
Because of their close relation to the moon, it's obvious that Sailor Moon and Moon Knight often get lumped together. User @raiko_star presents this hilarious depiction of Moon Knight as Sailor Moon, AKA Sailor Moon Knight. Seeing the dreaded Fist of Khonshu crying and posing by the moonlight is a surprise indeed, but a welcome one.
