Reigns is finally getting to show a new side of his personality after playing a face for quite some time. The outstanding new act sees Roman showing no mercy as the most dominant star on the roster with statement wins over Bray Wyatt, Braun Strowman, and even his cousin Jey Uso.

Quite a few wrestlers could present realistic options to dethrone Reigns down the line. The wrestler to end his title reign will benefit immensely from the win if WWE can tell the right story to make it ideal. 10 Samoa Joe

The Samoan Dynasty of the Anoa’i family saw Roman Reigns referencing various traditions in his feud with his cousin Jey Uso. Despite not being a part of the family, Samoa Joe is another top star with a Samoan background.

The term “chief” is being used to describe Reigns as the top dog. Upon Joe's return to active competition, he may disagree with Reigns' place in the pecking order, easily having the rationale to challenge him for the gold. Joe is currently on the Raw commentary team, but he will likely be in the ring when cleared to compete with the opportunity to dethrone the Roman era.

9 AJ Styles

AJ Styles is currently a heel on SmackDown, but he does have a connection with the audience akin to a babyface. Whenever WWE does have live crowds again, Styles will likely get huge cheers, no matter if he's performing as a heel or face.

Roman Reigns had great chemistry with Styles back in 2016 when both wrestlers were faces. Styles turning face in 2020 would be an easy transition and fans would love to see him become a threat to the new version of Reigns again.

8 Kevin Owens

The current position of Kevin Owens has him as a popular face in need of the right program to get back to the top. Owens did a great job in his angle with Seth Rollins to prove he could thrive as a face in WWE.

However, the time on Raw has seen Owens struggling to move up the card with limited opportunities. SmackDown could be a better fit for Owens to climb the ladder. Strong chemistry with Reigns in the past saw KO having stronger performances and walking out with championship gold. Maybe Owens is the right guy to knock off The Tribal Chief and reclaim the Universal Championship.

7 Dominik Mysterio

It is unknown how long of a title reign WWE will want Roman Reigns to have with the Universal Championship. Reigns is currently the best act in WWE and could have a lengthy reign that sees WWE waiting for the right face to dethrone him.

Dominik Mysterio is already proving to be a huge hit for the company in his first few matches. The social media numbers for Domink’s matches and segments always reach the top results. WWE elevating Dominik could see him as the one to beat Roman later down the road for a true star-making moment.

6 Jeff Hardy

The Intercontinental Championship reign of Jeff Hardy proved that the veteran could still perform at the highest level. Jeff re-signed with WWE despite the fact that his brother Matt is in AEW and he’d likely get a big offer there.

WWE values Jeff as an upper card act in the right program. The potential match between Hardy and Roman Reigns could bring in strong business for WWE as a first-time feud. Jeff dethroning Roman would be the ultimate feel-good moment for the future Hall of Famer this late into his career.

5 The Rock

Fans have already started speculating about The Rock coming back to have a dream match against his cousin Roman Reigns. Many of the promos from Reigns claiming he’s the breadwinner in the family could be skewed as insults towards Rock.

Both wrestlers worked together in the hit movie Hobbs & Shaw to show they are still close outside of the ring. Rock will need the right idea to return and beating his cousin for another title reign could certainly make WWE must-see television again.

4 Big E

The injuries to Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have provided the stage for Big E to thrive on his own. Big E’s feud with Sheamus gave him some momentum as a singles wrestler with many fans rallying behind him.

The potential match of Big E vs Roman Reigns could see the real-life story of them both being on equal footing in their developmental days, but can Big E live up to The Big Dog's power? Big E never found the same level of success as Roman, but a win for the Universal Championship could validate him in the long game.

3 Adam Cole

Roman Reigns recently named Adam Cole as one of the rising WWE stars from NXT he’d love to work with. Cole has thrived in the top spot of just about every place he’s worked for from ROH to PWG to NXT.

The main roster run for Cole is imminent and he’ll likely receive a huge push. Cole has a connection with the diehard fan base that would love to cheer him in a program against Roman. WWE would have an instant new top star if Cole pulled out a victory over Reigns for the Universal Championship.

2 Brock Lesnar

The absence of Brock Lesnar will likely cause fans to appreciate him if he ever does return to WWE. Multiple attempts to push the story of a face Roman Reigns vs Brock as a heel led to failure on the biggest stage.

Reigns having Paul Heyman at his side and playing the heel completely changes the dynamic and adds new intrigue to the appeal of the program. Lesnar would have a completely new presence if playing a face to dethrone Roman and get revenge on Heyman for jumping ship.

WWE fans initially started turning on Roman Reigns in 2015 when the company pushed him over Daniel Bryan as the top face. Both wrestlers have always had stellar chemistry, but the new dynamic of Roman as a heel adds something new.

Bryan is the most beloved face character of the past decade for WWE and plays the perfect underdog. The new version of Reigns is a vicious heel and the perfect wrestler to rival Bryan. WWE could have an all-time great storyline of Bryan overcoming the odds again to end Roman’s Universal Championship run.
