Teen Mom Cast Members Who Have Refused To Film The Series
Owen Barnes
Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2 fans have discussed cast members refusing to film for years. Here are some stars who have skipped out on filming.
Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2 may be known for documenting the lives of young mothers, but that doesn't mean that cameras capture everything, as there have been several cast members who have refused to film at one point or another. The two successful spin-offs of MTV's 16 And Pregnant have kept fans up to date with their favorite teen moms for almost 10 years, with the stars of the shows now in their late 20s and early 30s.
Since the Teen Mom franchise has been around for a decade, there's plenty of proof that MTV and its producers have been witnesses to a plethora of crazy moments. Teen Mom 2 fans may remember Jenelle's on-camera arrests and subsequent legal battles, while Teen Mom captured Amber putting her hands on ex-fiancé Gary Shirley. Between explosive arguments, tearful exchanges, and several physical altercations, the shows have produced scenes that are still talked about today.
While the stars of MTV's Teen Mom franchise are long-used to being in the public eye, there are still some aspects of their lives that cameras haven't captured, whether events occurred off-season or because of a general unwillingness to share. With strict contractual obligations no doubt in place, Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2 fans can't help but wonder how some cast members manage to avoid the cameras more than others and how this can affect their employment. Here are some Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2 stars who, despite being on reality television series, have forbidden MTV's production crew from filming their personal lives.
Kailyn Lowry
Kailyn Lowry and former BFF Leah Messer are the only original Teen Mom 2 stars left standing, although many viewers think that Kailyn's time on the show is running out. While Kailyn used to be an open book with fans, the star first refused to film for TM2 in 2020 after getting arrested for domestic assault against her ex-boyfriend and two youngest children's father, Chris Lopez. Since then, Kailyn has refused to film with the crew multiple times, with tensions at its peak after Chris signed a contract with MTV in 2021. After Kailyn's hiatus from filming Teen Mom 2 season 10, the 30-year-old reappeared for season 11, although she's stated multiple times this year that she is still unsure about her future with MTV. Whether Kailyn ultimately quits for good or the network lets her go for continuously ignoring the camera, the star is on thin ice.
Jenelle Evans
Speaking of thin ice, Jenelle Evans was given several second chances by MTV before finally getting fired from Teen Mom 2 in 2019. While MTV cameras caught a lot of Jenelle's troubles with the law during the early seasons of TM2, Jenelle became less willing to film once she met her now-husband David Eason in 2015. After Jenelle was filmed pulling out a gun while driving with her son Jace in 2018, Jenelle refused to appear for that season's reunion. Later that year, David was given the ax by MTV for tweeting homophobic remarks online, and the decision fueled Jenelle's uncooperative personality further. Appearing intermittently throughout TM2 season 9a due to her refusal to film without David, Jenelle's contract was officially severed in May 2019 after David shot and killed her dog, Nugget.
Chelsea DeBoer
Chelsea DeBoer, who left Teen Mom, slowly started phasing her family out of the spotlight before finally quitting Teen Mom 2 in 2020. Back in 2015, Chelsea was initially wary about then-boyfriend Cole DeBoer joining the show and made it clear that Cole and her daughter Aubree's father, Adam Lind, would not interact on camera. A few years later, Chelsea was one of several TM2 stars who refused to continue filming the season 8 reunion after Kailyn, Briana, and Briana's sister Brittany DeJesus almost got physical. Between 2018 and 2020, Chelsea's storyline shrank as the DeBoers' comfortability with filming faded, and fans complained that the star was becoming boring and redundant. However, Chelsea and Cole are set to star in a new HGTV series titled Farmhouse Fabulous.
Farrah Abraham
As the first MTV star to be fired in 2017, Farrah Abraham's time on Teen Mom is remembered as dramatic, chaotic, and even volatile at times. Farrah's uncooperative attitude towards the Teen Mom crew first made headlines in 2015 when she refused to let MTV employees use her bathrooms. By 2016, Farrah not only threatened to quit Teen Mom in an explosive rant but shoved executive producer Larry Musnik. While many thought that Farrah should have received the boot after her assault on Musnik, it took the star another year before finally getting fired. Although, Farrah was fired for her work in the adult entertainment industry, not her refusal to film.
Jade Cline
Jade Cline, who previously starred on MTV's spin-off series Young And Pregnant, joined Teen Mom 2 in 2019 as Jenelle's replacement. Between frequent arguments with her on-and-off boyfriend Sean Austin and her parents' drug addictions, Jade's personal life has been met with waves of sympathy and concern for her daughter Kloie. Despite her rough past, Jade has become a hairstylist who even has her own hair salon. Although Jade is one of the newest additions to Teen Mom 2, that hasn't stopped the 24-year-old from trying to call the shots. After appearing on Teen Mom 2 season 9B, Jade refused to film for the reunion alongside Ashley Jones, Jade's Young And Pregnant co-star, who was hired to replace Chelsea. The next year, Jade forbid cameras from documenting parts of her plastic surgery recovery for TM2 season 10. Kailyn later called out her co-star for filming Teen Mom: Family Reunion on Kloie's birthday.
Teen Mom 2 season 11 premiered last month, which means that viewers are once again following Kailyn, Briana, Jade, Leah, and Ashley's storylines. Between Kailyn and Briana's court case recently being dismissed and Leah's boyfriend surprising her with a new house, these moms are always sharing exciting news. Teen Mom season 10 is expected to air later this year despite its falling ratings. With MTV casting strong and outspoken mothers on their series', it's quite possible that someone else may refuse to film in the future.
