Report Suggests Stephanie's WWE Leave, In Part, Due To Questions About Job Performance

Writer Daniel Cobb

According to an updated report regarding Stephanie McMahon's leave of absence from WWE, her wanting to spend more time with family is not the sole reason she's taking some time away. An update on the situation suggests that her abilities as an executive were questioned and that might have as much to do with her leave as anything.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has followed up on news of Stephanie's leave and reported that Nick Khan will temporarily take over her duties while new hires are brought in. The company also held a meeting to address her absence and speculation is that she'll be gone long-term and not just for a brief period of time. Now, as per a report by Andrew Zarian of “We’re Live, Pal”, one of his sources in WWE says that there was some doubt placed on her performance and abilities as an executive.

Zarian notes that he had a surprising phone call from someone in the know in WWE and that internally, people behind the scenes were questioning the job she was doing. He states, "And a lot of this started after she absorbed some of Michelle Wilson’s responsibilities after she left, one being ad sales and sponsorship." He adds, "And the comment that I found interesting was that they mentioned that the investors were questioning why they weren’t performing as well. And internally, there was some questioning as to why that wasn’t performing."

Did Stephanie Leave Or Her Own, Or Was It Suggested?

If this is true, one has to wonder if Stephanie decided to take a leave because she didn't like that she was being doubted or if WWE suggested she take some time away because they planned on replacing her in the role she was currently doing. If it was the former, it seems logical she might have taken offense or said, 'I've been here long enough and if you don't like the job I'm doing, I'm happy to spend some time with my family.' If it was the latter, it just goes to show that business is business.

Vince McMahon did hint in an interview with Pat McAfee that he was sometimes disappointed in the job his family was doing. It's not clear if these things are at all connected.
