ODB Discusses Being Cut From WWE Tough Enough

Writer Daniel Cobb

ODB, aka Jessica Kresa, is a four-time TNA Women's Knockout Champion and a TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champion who is currently signed to NWA. In 2001, she tried out for the first season of the WWF Tough Enough but missed the final cut for the show.

“Well, actually, my first taste of wrestling… back in the WWF days, the very first Tough Enough. I was like, ‘Oh my God! The easy way to get in wrestling is by sending my tape,’" she told entertainment reporter Chris Van Vliet. "My brother was like, ‘You need to have a cool name. Jesse’s not going to be colorful.' He’s like, ‘One Dirty B**ch, ODB.’ I didn’t even think about the Wu-Tang Clan, Ol’ Dirty Bastard.

“Then, I did it and they made a nice little cool video. They sent me to New York and I made it to the Top 20, but I didn’t make it on the show, obviously. I’m so glad I didn’t because who knows what I would’ve been up to right now if I had been a reality star, she added.

Maven Huffman and Nidia Guenard were crowned the winners of the first season of Tough Enough. Of the final five contestants, four eventually joined WWE. Nidia was eventually released from WWE on November 3, 2004, while Maven was released on July 5, 2005. Other wrestlers that were cut included, Josh Matthews, Chris Nowinski and Jackie Gayda.

In 2007, ODB was contacted by TNA to take part in their annual PPV Bound for Glory. In a 10-Knockout gauntlet match to crown the first-ever Knockout Champion, she was eliminated by Roxxi Laveaux, and the match was finally won by Gail Kim. On the January 3, 2008, episode of Impact!, ODB won an 8-Knockout gauntlet match to determine the rankings of the Knockout's division in TNA.

The 42-year-old wrestler, a former hockey player at St. Cloud State University, left TNA in 2014. After stints at ROH, Impact and AEW, she joined NWA on December 14, 2019, at Into the Fire. At the event, ODB made her debut as Allysin Kay's mystery tag team partner, defeating Marti Belle and Melina.
