KEY POINTS:

Senior citizens will be able to enjoy a free cup of tea or coffee when they chow down on a hamburger with fast-food chain McDonalds joining the SuperGold card scheme.

The SuperGold card, launched in August, is a discount card for pensioners that offers improved rates and services from about 700 businesses that have so far signed up to it.

The card is part of New Zealand First's support agreement with the Government.

The Ministry of Social Development, which administers the card, said in a statement McDonalds had joined the scheme and from today card holders would receive a free tea or filter coffee with any purchase.
