John Cena Sr. (& 9 Other Wrestling Parents Who Got Involved In Storylines)

Writer Sophia Bowman

In wrestling, the aim is to always bring as much emotion and passion into a storyline to truly draw in the fans and create an unforgettable situation. Adding in family members can often be the trick to make that happen, whether it be romantic partners, children, or at times, the parents of wrestlers.

These situations are rare and don't work if they're overdone, but thankfully that hasn't been the case when it comes to bringing in a parent. They have been done unexpectedly and have often led to some fantastic moments that wrestling fans haven't forgotten about, purely due to how unique it has been to see them involved.

John Cena has been involved in a lot of tremendous storylines throughout his career, but his rivalry with Edge is one that most people remember. This storyline had a lot of exciting moments, but one of the most memorable is when Edge visited Cena's family home.

This brought John Cena Sr. into the situation for a classic encounter with the Rated R Superstar. The two went back and forth verbally until Edge slapped Cena's father, who sold the move hilariously. He has been injected into a story with Randy Orton too, where he actually got punted.

9 Ric Flair & Lacey Evans

With Ric Flair, things are a little different due to his history in the business, but he has been heavily involved with several of Charlotte Flair's storylines. He worked alongside her as a manager to success, but later in her career, he sided with her rival, Lacey Evans.

The storyline was a disaster really and it didn't quite work out due to Lacey becoming pregnant in real life. However, the Nature Boy would work with Lacey to try and go against his daughter in the brief moments of the story that they had.

8 Dawn Marie Marries Al Wilson

Not only did they get married, but Al actually 'died' in the storyline as well, on the night of the wedding. This led to issues between Torrie Wilson and Marie reaching a fever pitch in what was one of the most over the top storylines of all time.

7 Jack Swagger's Father Is Chokeslammed

Kane chokeslams Jack Swagger's father

This isn't one of the most memorable examples of a parent in wrestling, but Jack Swagger's father did end up getting Chokeslammed on SmackDown. This situation came about courtesy of Kane, who was out for answers at this time.

This was the storyline of when The Undertaker had been attacked, with Kane blaming everybody around him even though he was actually the attacker. One man he confronted was Swagger, and his father suffered because of it.

6 Bob Orton Sr. Battles With The Deadman

Randy Orton's WrestleMania storyline with The Undertaker was one of the most exciting of his career. The two of them worked well together, and to add to the belief that Orton could win, WWE decided to add Randy's father to the situation.

He was a pest on the outside of the ring, causing Undertaker issues throughout the entire storyline. It was great to see the two men together as well, with Randy picking up plenty of small details from the partnership.

One of those included his father's pizza place which saw him confront him and even post a picture of himself onto the Gargano Wall of Fame, adding a little more tension to the situation.

4 The Inner Circle Attacks Papa Buck

AEW might not have been around for too long, but Tony Khan has managed to bring a parent into a storyline several times. One of the most well-known examples came during The Young Bucks' feud with The Inner Circle.

In a backstage moment, Chris Jericho and MJF attacked Papa Buck, leaving him bloody and beaten. It worked well in terms of adding great heat to the storyline, as fans desperately wanted the heels to get their comeuppance.

However, after being pushed into a pinfall by Spike Dudley, Chavo Classic actually ended up winning the match, becoming the Cruiserweight Champion himself to kickstart the storyline.

2 Maryse Slaps Zack Ryder's Father

The Raw after WrestleMania is always a show full of surprises, and after WrestleMania 32 one of those was Maryse's return. This took place during an Intercontinental Championship match between The Miz and Zack Ryder, and Maryse's influence helped her husband win.

She turned up at ringside and ended up slapping Ryder's father in the face who was sitting at ringside watching the show. He had jumped into the ring on the previous night to celebrate with his son, so this altercation wrapped up the storyline.

1 The Miz's Father Fights At WrestleMania

George Mizanan and Shane McMahon face off

Perhaps the greatest time a parent got involved in a storyline was when The Miz's father, George Mizanan ended up fighting Shane McMahon at WrestleMania. He had been brought into Shane and Miz's feud in the build-up, and during their match at WrestleMania 35, he was ringside.

Things escalated and eventually, George ended up across the ring from Shane with his fists up. It created one of the most talked about moments of the night and only helped enhance the legend of his father.
