How to Find (& Catch) The Sea Pig in Animal Crossing

Writer Liam Parker

Animal Crossing: New Horizons summer swimming update has unleashed several new creatures from the depths to catch, including the sea pig.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons' new summer update has changed up the fishing mechanism, allowing players to catch things like crabs, clams, and even a sea pig. The sea pig is just one of many creatures that can be caught while diving, using the summer swimming update to the best of its ability. Due to this update, the true fisherman of Animal Crossing will have to take a new approach to fill their critterpedia.

To use diving to catch underwater critters, players should get comfortable with the swimming mechanics of the game. Depending on the speed of the creature, different techniques will need to be employed to catch them. Here's how to catch a sea pig.

How to Catch a Sea Pig in Animal Crossing

The sea pig is an entirely new creature for not only Animal Crossing: New Horizons but the Animal Crossing series as a whole. Never seen before, this creature is another bottom of the sea scuttler who can only be captured while diving. The sea pig presents itself from the surface of the water as a small but quick shadow. As such, players will need to use a better technique for catching this little guy.A good technique for catching faster sea dogs while swimming is to slowly swim above where the shadow is sitting and to dive down directly on top of it. This is because when players swim at the surface, the critter is less likely to run off. This technique makes the creature not think it is being followed. Players will learn after trying to chase down the faster creatures, that it isn't worth it.Active between the hours of 4 pm and 9 am, the sea pig is more of a night pig. This creature will be available from November to February for northern hemisphere players. For southern hemisphere players, the sea pig will be out and about from May to the end of August. This makes the sea pig one of the few creatures that can still be caught throughout the winter for northern hemisphere players that will miss the insects.Sea pigs fetch a fairly nice price at the Nook & Cranny gaining players 10k per pig. As they are around so much, it may be worth seeking out sea pigs to make a good chunk of bells in a day during their active season. These little guys can also be donated to Blather's museum. If donated, Blathers can tell players several interesting facts about the little guys, including that the sea pig is a particular kind of sea cucumber and that this sea cucumber is poisonous.
