AEW Fans React Poorly To Mercedes Mone Not Showing Up On Dynamite
Sophia Bowman
AEW Dynamite was a pretty strong show this week. A blockbuster ladder match in which the Trios Titles changed hands, Jon Moxley vs. Hangman Page opening the show, and the anticipated return of Adam Cole. Unfortunately, despite Dynamite being even more loaded than usual, many fans have chosen to unfairly focus on something that was missing.
No Mercedes Mone
That something was Mercedes Mone. The woman formerly known as Sasha Banks showed up in NJPW last week. Confirmation that she is no longer a part of WWE, and working with a company that continues to do business with AEW, had many fans convinced Mone would be on Dynamite this week. Especially when Saraya was advertised to be wrestling alongside a mystery partner.

That partner was Toni Storm, not Mone, which in fairness, AEW revealed a week ago. While some accepted that meant Mone would not become All Elite, others believed it to be a swerve. It wasn't and the tag match went ahead as planned. No unannounced partner, and no run-in from Mone to rescue Saraya and Storm after they were beaten by Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter.
AEW Fans Hit Back
The backlash towards AEW began with the in-house fans as soon as they realized they wouldn't be seeing Mone. The fan-shot footage above shows a moment from Dynamite when the lights went out and people clearly thought Mone's music was about to hit. Turns out it was just a break in the show during which AEW took the opportunity to advertise matches that will take place on Rampage.
The onslaught of complaints continued on social media as fans have accused AEW of building up expectations. In defense of AEW, at no point has it even been implied Mone would be wrestling for the promotion at all, let alone on this week's Dynamite. It was just a bad time to have Saraya, who has a history with Mone, tease a mystery partner. By the time she confirmed it was Storm, fans had already let their imaginations run wild.
