5 Real-Life Wrestling Couples That Make No Sense (& 5 That Totally Do)

Writer Daniel Cobb

WWE has become one of the most well-recognized companies in the world since it was introduced to the world as a mega-power in the 1980s. Since it has made its way into the homes of millions of people across the world, we’ve seen some of the most heartwarming moments that television has ever had to offer. Aside, from things like the unforgettable reunions, or the inspiriting rise of an underdog, we have been there to witness some of the most amazing on and off-screen relationships between some of the company’s superstars.

No one can ever forget being there to see “The Macho Man” Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth tie the knot in the ring, or being present to experience Triple H and Stephanie McMahon’s rise to power. While it was an interesting time in wrestling to see it expand into a more in-depth view of the stars’ personal lives, today we are able to get even more detailed experiences through shows like Total Diva’s and the wrestlers’ own social media accounts. Some of these relationships work out better than others, which is understandable to the strenuous demand of the WWE schedule. This list is here to shed light on which current stars’ relationships make sense and which do not.

10 Makes No Sense: Charlotte Flair and Andrade

Charlotte Flair and Andrade "Cien" Almas may share common ground through their family history in the business, but the two are worlds apart when it comes to achievements in the business. Daughter of the legendary Ric Flair, Charlotte has amassed an astonishing 10 Women’s Championship reigns in her short time with the company.

Almas is still trying to find his way in the company but has a bright future. Almas is the current United States Champion, after having defeated Rey Mysterio in late December. There’s a slim chance he will ever be able to compare to his partner when it comes to status within the WWE. The two were recently engaged despite their differences.

9 Makes Sense: The Miz and Maryse

The self-proclaimed “It Couple” has become just that as they’ve managed to remain in the spotlight in recent years. Having met during the 2006 Diva Search – an event in which The Miz was hosting and Maryse was apart of – they have managed to withstand the test of time. The couple got married in 2014 after The Miz proposed in the same room the two met.

The couples hit USA TV show entitled “Miz & Mrs.” has become one of the company’s most well-received programs aside from Monday Night Raw and Smackdown Live. Even though they have played the heel roles for the majority of their careers, they’ve managed to become very well-liked both on and off-screen.

8 Makes No Sense: Aleister Black and Zelina Vega

On-screen, Aleister Black and Zelina Vega’s television personalities do not have much in common. Black portrays a dark, mysterious, and a rather popular character. Vega herself plays a flashy, loud, and lesser-known character.

Aleister Black and Zelina Vega were a well-kept secret for a good portion of their relationship. They were officially married in 2018, but since they mostly keep their private life out of the spotlight, we do not know too much about the two as a unit.

7 Makes Sense: Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella

Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella have been around in WWE for a long time. They have accomplished a lot since joining the company. Bryan is easily one of the most popular wrestlers of the last decade and Brie has been a consistent presence on the brand’s mainstreamed programs.

The couple got close after a storyline they were both involved in during 2010. They hit it off early, which led to them getting married in April of 2014. Bryan and Brie’s relationship is one that any couple would be jealous of. Bryan even managed to stop a burglary in progress at his own home in order to protect his wife. The two like to keep it simple, so they choose to spend their time together on the road eating at local restaurants.

6 Makes No Sense: Rusev and Lana

The Bulgarian Brute made a splash in WWE early on in his career. Rusev has since been in some major feuds with some of the company’s top stars. He has yet to really make a mark in the company but he's a 3-time U.S. Champion. Lana made her debut alongside Rusev, serving as her manager/valet.

The two come don’t seem to have much in common at first glance. Their time together early on as newcomers in the business surely had to play a big role in their decision to date. Today, the two are involved in a rather controversial storyline that involves Lana and Bobby Lashley being romantically involved. It’s believed that this may cause tension within the couple’s real-life relationship, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

5 Makes Sense: Vince McMahon and Linda McMahon

Vince McMahon and Linda McMahon have been together since they were in their teens. They got married on August 26th, 1966. The power couple is known for their success in business, but things were not always easy. Their son Shane was born in 1970, followed by Stephanie in 1976.

Vince’s had a vision of turning his wrestling promotion into a worldwide spectacle after the couple experienced some hard times. Linda, who had very little interest in wrestling, would tend to the company’s business to make sure it blossomed under Vince’s care.

4 Don't Make Sense: Brock Lesnar and Sable

“The Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar is widely recognized as one of the most dominant forces to ever step foot in the squared circle. At the age of 25, Lesnar became the youngest WWE Champion in history at the time. His counterpart, Sable, will be remembered as one of wrestling’s most gorgeous women. She also graced the cover of Playboy Magazine three times throughout her career.

With a 10 year gap between their birthdates, this unlikely couple manages to make it work. Having originally met in 2003, the two moved quite fast, deciding to get married in May of 2006. The two do not enjoy having eyes on their relationship, so they spend very little time on social media and reside in the wilderness of Saskatchewan.

3 Makes Sense: Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch

Seth Rollins has had his share of ups and downs since his debut. He’s held the WWE Championship on numerous occasions, dealt with major injuries, been extremely popular, and has sometimes failed to connect with the crowd. Becky Lynch has had to fight to get where she is today – the company’s most respected female wrestler. “The Man” has become a fan favorite.

Seth and Becky got engaged in August 2019 after concealing their relationship from the eyes of both fans and peers. They decided to shine a light on the situation after Rollins’ Wrestlemania 35 win over Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship.

2 Makes No Sense: Jon Moxley and Renee Young

Jon Moxley - formerly known as Dean Ambrose during his time with the WWE - has become headline news for his jump to AEW in 2019. Moxley was a fan favorite in the WWE but was highly unsatisfied with the company for many different reasons. Renee Young started off with a backstage role, but she started to receive more on-screen time as the years passed.

With Moxley’s jump to the AEW, it didn’t make much sense for the two to remain an item, but they decided to give it a try. It probably helped that they have been closed since 2013. They went public with their relationship in 2015.

1 Makes Sense: Triple H and Stephanie McMahon

Next to Vince McMahon and Linda McMahon, there hasn’t been a more important couple in WWE history than Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. HHH himself is easily been one of the most decorated champions of any era.

The two really hit it off during an Attitude Era storyline involving Test. Vince wouldn’t allow Stephanie to date wrestlers at the time, but he eventually gave her permission to date Trips. They were married in 2003 and never looked back. One of the most memorable things they’ve done was give birth to Connor’s Cure, a charitable foundation that was started in memory of Connor “The Crusher” Michalek.
