10 Unresolved Storylines When WCW Ended

Writer Isabella Bartlett

When your favorite TV series comes to an end, most will do their best to wrap up all of the stories they've weaved throughout the season and give some closure to their fans. But in the world of wrestling, that's not always possible.

Some plots can't continue until a performer returns from injury or another element is revealed. When WCW closed their doors, some storylines were wrapped up on the episodes of Nitro and Thunder leading up to the final Night Of Champions, while others left fans wondering how it was going to end.

10 Kevin Nash Retirement

Towards the end of WCW's existence, Kevin Nash became a polarizing character. His last run involved teaming up with his friend DDP and regularly challenging for the Tag Team Championships. Eventually, his path would cross with Scott Steiner, and Big Sexy would lose in a retirement match against Big Poppa Pump. It wouldn't be Nash's first "final" match, and it wasn't his last, and fans knew that sooner or later that he would get his revenge on Steiner. But with the company closing up, he never did.

9 Sting's Return

While Sting made his final appearance on WCW at Night Of Champions, he was out of action leading up to the finale of Nitro. Scott Steiner and Jeff Jarrett took out The Icon in November 2000. Sting would often say that the only thing for sure is that nothing's for sure. But fans were positive that his return to the squared circle would have had more of a build-up, especially considering that both Steiner and Jarrett had created The Magnificent Seven faction shortly after taking out their rival.

8 Goldberg's Revenge

Goldberg's final rivalry in WCW was with Vince Russo. The boss would tell Goldberg that if he lost a match that he would be forced to retire. It was a poor attempt by Russo to recreate the magic of the original winning streak. The new streak would come to an end at Sin when Goldberg and his former trainer lost to Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell. The defeat was a way to write Goldberg off of TV so he could get shoulder surgery, and there was an expectation that he would return to exact revenge on Russo, Luger, and Bagwell.

7 Ernest Miller Vs. Kanyon & Animal

After putting his aid, Miss Jones, in the hospital, Ernest Miller would relinquish his commissioner duties to begin a feud with Kanyon. As the rivalry escalated, Road Warrior Animal would side with Kanyon while Miller's limo driver, M.I. Smooth would back up his employer.

While both parties went back-and-forth on the microphone during the final days of WCW, there was no conclusion to the storyline and fans never got to see Miller exact his full revenge on his enemies.

6 Rhodes Family Vs. Ric Flair & Jeff Jarrett

No matter what company they worked for, there was always a group of people looking to pick a fight with the Rhodes family. While Ric Flair ended his WCW run with a match against Sting, The Nature Boy was engaged in a personal feud with Dusty Rhodes. Jeff Jarrett was also involved, which brought Dustin Rhodes back to the company to defend his family's legacy. The four men would wrestle at Greed, but the feud seemed far from over on the following episodes of Nitro and Thunder. But it never came to a conclusion after WWE purchased the company.

5 Jason Jett Push

Jason Jett had only just arrived in WCW after coming from ECW, who had just declared bankruptcy. It seemed as though the company had grand plans for him as he was undefeated in singles competition up until the day WCW closed its doors. Jett had run through some former champions such as Kwee Wee, Alex Wright, and Disco Inferno. His final match would be on the last episode of Thunder, where he defeated Cash, but fans never got to see how far his push could have gone.

4 Bam Bam Bigelow & Shawn Stasiak

The rivalry between Shawn Stasiak and Bam Bam Bigelow had only just got going before WCW ended. The two had been trading wins back and forth, and Stasiak was adamant about getting one last victory over Bigelow.

Bigelow and Stasiak did get a battle on the final episode of Nitro despite neither man holding a championship. But the match lasted approximately a minute, and Stasiak would once again win controversially. After weeks of developing this storyline, the fans wondered what revenge Bigelow would exact next.

3 Lex Luger & Buff Bagwell

Totally Buffed was two of WCW's most narcissistic characters teaming up to take over the tag team division. Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell would "retire" Goldberg and continue their winning ways up until the final Nitro. But fans noticed that were was tension between Luger and Bagwell, and it seemed as though the team could explode at any moment. Unfortunately, they didn't get to see the dissolution of Totally Buffed, and they would go their separate ways after the doors closed on the company.

2 Shane Douglas & Rick Steiner

After losing the United States Championship to Rick Steiner, The Franchise would stalk the Dog-Faced Gremlin and attack him when he least expected. Douglas would get his arm plastered and come out through the crowd while Steiner was competing in matches. He then proceeded to knock him out and leave the way he came. Fans were expecting it to build to a battle between the two, but it never happened, and neither man would be seen in a ring again for some time after WCW closed.

1 Mystery Attacker

WCW's Magnificent Seven

One of WCW's most prominent storylines involved a mystery attacker who was taking out members of The Magnificent Seven one by one. On the final episode of Thunder, The Nature Boy would become the latest member to be discovered knocked out backstage. Several wrestlers were recovering from injuries and ready to make their return, including Kevin Nash, Goldberg, and Sting, that fans suspected was the mystery attacker. But WWE and WCW chose not to conclude the storyline on the final episode of Nitro.
