10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About D-Generation X
Michael Hansen
D-Generation X is one of the most impactful stables in the history of wrestling. The founding members of DX, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, and Chyna (also Rick Rude kind of), made an impact on wrestling fans in the late '90s that helped WWE eventually win the Monday Night Wars. They are legendary and the reason many fans fell in love with WWE wrestling.

Despite their notorious flaws, DX were the anti-establishment idols, rebels without boundaries, and hilarious hell-raisers every wrestling fan couldn't help but love at one point or another. Unfortunately, not everything DX did has aged well. The Hall of Fame stable has had a host of controversies full of backstage drama, offensive promos, and cringe-worthy language that the new PG WWE would love for fans to forget.
10 DX's Prior Knowledge Of The Montreal Screwjob
The Montreal Screwjob is one of the most infamous moments in WWE history. The company would like for it to be remembered as a moment that is now water under the bridge but the event left a dark cloud over wrestling for nearly two decades. DX's involvement was rarely spoken about on WWE television. When Shawn Michaels released his book, he declared he and Triple H not only knew about the event before the controversy but that Triple H advocated the double-cross. Their involvement tarnishes their anti-establishment legacy and was buried by WWE for a long time for this reason.
9 Crown Jewel 2018
Often considered one of the worst matches of all time, DX vs The Brothers of Destruction is why we can't force "dream matches." It was a money grab appearance that DX, WWE, and Brothers of Destruction fans all try to forget happened. The bout saw four Hall of Famers way past their prime wrestle in a subpar childhood-thrashing match that added nothing but disappointment to the two illustrious legacies of both tag teams.
8 Offending Little People Part 1
After the Montreal Screwjob, DX doubled down on the controversy and did a segment mocking Bret Hart. They brought out a little person dressed as The Hitman and bullied him in the ring, taunting Hart and his departure to WCW.

The segment was horribly offensive and is very high on the list of things the WWE hopes you never remember happened.
7 Cryme Tyme Segment
Cryme Tyme (Shad and JTG) was a stable that had flashes of the spotlight in the Ruthless Aggression era of WWE. During the second HHH/HBK incarnation of D-Generation X, Cryme Tyme did a segment with DX where Michaels said he spoke "jive" and Triple H assumed the two men were carrying a gun. It's a segment full of awful stereotypes and reflects very horribly on Michaels and Triple H who are both way too beloved to make such tropey jokes.
6 Not Feeding The Needy
During a 1999 Thanksgiving segment, DX (Triple H, Billy Gunn, and Road Dogg) appeared to be trying to help the needy by feeding homeless people. They actually just ate while hungry people in need watched them stuff their faces. They even ended up running the needy people off. It was an ultimate heel angle and although it fit the faction's actions at the time, the brutality of the moment looks horrible out of context and is never mentioned by the WWE or any members of DX.
5 Chyna's New Chest
Chyna is as important to the legacy of DX as Triple H or Shawn Michaels. The promos that feature the three of them are some of the best in the history of the WWE. One of the more cringe moments featured Michaels and Triple H introducing Chyna's new augmented breasts as the newest members of D Generation X. They continue for several minutes, pointing the camera at her chest and even staring at them as they talk. It's a moment that could never happen on PC WWE and is one everyone at the company would love fans to forget.
4 Bret Hart Naming DX Promo
Most fans know Bret Hart had a hand in giving D-Generation X their name. Many fans don't remember some of the other things that were said during the exchange between DX and the Hart Foundation.

Before Hart gave the stable their name, he told HHH and HBK he knew what the "H" in their names stood for, a word that rhymes with domo. The exchange is iconic for naming the group, but not often shown since it includes this horribly-dated insult from The Hitman.
3 Offending Little People Part 2
During a rivalry with the much forgotten stable, the Spirit Squad, DX did a segment where they mocked the group at the expense of five little people. The promo truly doesn't make a ton of sense and just shows them pretending to beat up the mock Spirit Squad in the same way they would eventually actually dominate the Squad. In the new PG WWE, this segment would never see the light of day and honestly was a low point of the second Triple H and Shawn Michaels run of DX.
2 nWo Similarities
Vince McMahon has denied that DX was inspired in any way by WCW's nWo, but few actually believe that. There are so many parallels between the two from the "destruct the establishment" mindset to the fact that everyone involved in both stables was a part of the infamous "Kliq."
WWE would like everyone to believe D-Generation X was a product of the company with no outside influences but the similarities are hard to miss. DX was, at the very least, inspired by the New World Order's popularity, but some argue they were a straight-up rip-off of the stable.
1 Nation Of Domination Segment In Blackface
One of the most infamous moments in the history of WWE and DX. The segment where D-Generation X mocked the Nation of Domination by wearing blackface is a moment WWE would like everyone to forget about. The rivalry with The Nation was honestly one of the best rivalries DX ever had and, unfortunately, the controversial moment will always cast a shadow over both legendary stables. WWE has removed the segment from all of its platforms, but there's no hiding this moment from the public.
