10 Ridiculous Ultimate Warrior Moments You Forgot About

Writer Owen Barnes

The Ultimate Warrior, aka Jim Hellwig or simply Warrior, was by far one of the most popular, memorable, and controversial characters ever to grace the world of professional wrestling. For those inside the industry, almost everyone has an opinion of this iconic performer - probably more negative than positive based on publicly shared views.

And while the Warrior had his share of success in the ring, his character was one that didn't always lend itself well if trying to view wrestling from the lens of rationality (it is best not to try it). The Warrior was never afraid to assume the controls of his storylines and drive it into a nosedive towards insanity.

10 Appearing in Hulk Hogan's Mirror

For most Warrior fans, the less said about his WCW run the better. Although it was only a few months long, it provided a great number of ridiculous moments, such as his entire feud with Hollywood Hogan and the nWo.

While Steve Austin and The Undertaker were battling on Monday Night Raw, The Warrior was using smoke screens and "appearing" in Hogan's mirror while Eric Bischoff couldn't see him. It was very odd as it was the type of stuff WCW usually avoided at the time.

9 Don't Smoke PSA

Ultimate Warrior PSA

On a number of WWE video releases in the late 1980s and 1990s, wrestlers would speak about the dangers of smoking in quick PSAs at the beginning of the tape. Some of these featured superstars such as Hulk Hogan and The Rockers.

Not surprisingly, the most ridiculous starred Warrior, who held two handfuls of cigarettes as he ranted and raved about how his "bad habits were only the ones that help him survive." The ad ends with Warrior gritting his teeth and snarling "Don't smokkkkeeee."

8 Cursed By Papa Shango

Ultimate Warrior Papa Shango Curse

1992 was in the middle of the peak of cartoony gimmicks in WWE, and few feuds showcased this as much as Papa Shango vs. The Ultimate Warrior. Shango, who was supposed to be a voodoo priest, was known for 'cursing' his opponents.

This feud saw Shango curse Warrior, causing him to have horrible stomach pains and puke on the backstage doctor, and also saw black ooze pour from Warrior's hair as he stared at his hands speaking gibberish.

7 Rejecting Sensational Queen Sherri

After Ultimate Warrior captured the WWE title at WrestleMania VI, the list of heel challengers ready to take him on was not very long, so it was not surprising when he was slotted into a feud with 'Macho King' Randy Savage in the fall of 1990.

One of the narratives of the feud was Savage sending Sherri, his manager, to ask Warrior for a title shot. At Royal Rumble 1991, she even kissed him and got on her knees, promising the Warrior "anything" if he gave Savage a title shot. Warrior responded by spitting, furiously shaking his head and bellowing "Nooooooooooo" at her.

6 Now You See Him, Now You Don't

While the character of the Ultimate Warrior had always been on the crazy side, when he debuted in WCW things were really dialed up, as he was given a Batman-like symbol, and he implored fans to come back next week at the "same Warrior time, same Warrior channel."

Probably the most ridiculous part of his WCW run was how the ring would fill up with smoke as he appeared and disappeared through a trap door some claimed caused The British Bulldog to suffer a serious back injury.

5 Training for the Dark Side with Jake The Snake

Ultimate Warrior Jake The Snake Training

When The Undertaker arrived in WWE in late 1990, the character was like nothing wrestling had seen, at the least on a national scale. There had been "monster" gimmicks before, but they were usually over the top or campy. The Undertaker was straight-up scary for many fans.

Naturally, when Warrior faced off against The Deadman, he enlisted the evil but popular Roberts who gave him some tips on the dark side. This included burying him up to his neck in dirt and locking him in a room full of snakes before eventually turning on him.

4 Locked in a Casket by The Undertaker

The Undertaker-Ultimate Warrior feud was kicked off by what was, at the time, an incredibly out-of-left-field moment, when the Grim Reaper attacked Warrior from behind during an interview segment and locked him in an "airtight" casket.

Commentators Vince McMahon, Randy Savage, and Roddy Piper were aghast at the thought the Warrior might actually suffocate in the casket, and a number of officials made laughable attempts to get him out. At the time, it was an effective way to make Undertaker look like a killer heel, but hasn't aged very well.

3 WrestleMania VI Promos

Ultimate Warrior Hulk Hogan

The main event of WrestleMania VI in Toronto of Hogan vs. Warrior is one of the most remembered and successful matches in the history of WWE. The ability to pit the biggest babyfaces of the era against each other and have neither man be booed is an accomplishment in itself.

Leading up to the match, Warrior's promos, which were always crazy, became even stranger as he began speaking a very quiet, more evil-sounding voice along with a lot of snarling. If you've never heard Warrior's "crash the plane" promo from this time, Google it right now.

2 "Queering Doesn't Make The World Work"

Ultimate Warrior

For fans who didn't ever see Warrior during his heyday in WWE, their first reference to the Hall of Famer may have been when he became an outspoken conservative in the mid-2000s.

The most infamous example of this was a speech at UCONN in 2005, where Warrior went toe-to-toe with a number of angry students protesting his presence, before declaring "Queering doesn't make the world work."

1 His Comic Books

Ultimate Warrior Comic Books

In the mid-90s, Warrior began to look at a number of projects outside the wrestling ring, including a line of comic books. On paper, the idea works due to his gimmick literally being like a comic book superhero.

The problem was the storylines were completely crazy with the highlight being Warrior saving Santa Claus from a monster, then chaining him to a wall, stealing his clothes, and going out to terrify children.
