10 Mistakes WWE Needs To Avoid With Edge’s Stable Judgment Day

Writer Sophia Bowman

Whilst Edge’s recent heel turn in WWE didn’t start off with a lot of popularity, it is starting to gain some momentum with the creation of his very own stable – Judgment Day. Thus far, he has recruited both Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley, who were both in dire need of a new direction, with this group promising that.

Things may be running smoothly right now, but it could all go wrong at any time with WWE’s haphazard booking. There are certain things WWE needs to ensure that they do and don’t do to make this team a success, with a lot of care needed in order to not ruin them.

10 Making Them Too Creepy

Over the last couple of years, WWE have had a bad habit of going too far when it comes to darker characters. The likes of “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt and Alexa Bliss both suffered due to WWE implementing too many spooky shenanigans into their feuds and matches.

Over-the-top magic, teleportation, and vague promos could well become the norm, but to avoid the fans becoming disinterested and simply comparing them to other darker groups or characters, they can’t be too creepy.

9 Breaking Them Up Too Quickly

If WWE wants to make stars out of the likes of Ripley and Priest, then this needs to be a long-term project. Whilst Edge’s WWE return has gone in a very different direction to what many expected, if WWE commits to this faction, then it could open a whole new chapter to his legacy.

In WWE, they tend to break up tag teams and groups for little to no reason, but this can’t happen with Judgment Day, at least not until way down the line. At least a year needs to go by before WWE even thinks of a breakup storyline.

8 Adding Too Many Members

There have been several rumors when it comes to potential members who could join the group, including the likes of Ciampa and Corey Graves, and whilst a few more additions would be nice, WWE needs to make sure that they don’t overcrowd it.

If they did this, then it runs the risk of members getting lost in the shuffle, which would render the whole thing pointless, as it should be used to elevate those involved.

7 Using Purple Lighting

For whatever reason, WWE have a minor obsession with adding mood lighting to certain matches and wrestlers. Not long ago, Sin Cara would wrestle in a darkened arena, with the most recent example being The Fiend, who wrestled in a ring draped with blinding red light.

With Judgment Day’s promos already being consumed with purple lighting, it could well be a possibility that WWE utilizes this in their matches. However, ring lighting has never been popular, with it taking away the atmosphere of matches, making it hard to see at times.

6 Not Letting Individual Personalities Shine

This follows on slightly from the point about too many members, but it would still be relevant if the faction stayed as is. With Edge as the mouthpiece and focal point, it could lead to other members becoming bystanders and background characters.

WWE needs to allow both Ripley and Priest to get sufficient time on the mic to help bring their personalities out. Often in stables and tag teams in WWE, personalities can mesh into one, but to make the most out of the group, their individual characters need to be developed and nuanced.

5 Having Too Many DQ Finishes

Disqualifications and no contests are far too commonplace in WWE, with it being rare that they are ever good. When it comes to a heel faction such as this, DQs have already become a trait, with one member attacking the babyface before the match can come to a close.

This is a tired trope, and it always leaves people frustrated, but not in a good way, where heat is created. It is genuinely tiring, and the fans will become indifferent towards Judgment Day if this is a common occurrence going forwards.

4 Lights Out Moments

Judgment Day have already utilized the lights out gimmick, but it can’t become a staple of their group. It has been used far too often, and the damage of that can be seen in the likes of AEW, where it feels completely overdone.

To avoid the same thing happening in WWE, having “lights out” moments can’t happen too often. Atmospheric entrances and ambushes from behind would be just as effective, and more logical.

3 Feuding With The Same People

Judgment Day have been feuding with AJ Styles since before WrestleMania, and whilst it hasn’t been too long, the number of matches between Styles and the group have come far too often. With the inclusion of Liv Morgan into the feud, she has already battled Rhea Ripley in multiple different ways now too.

Finn Balor has also been a part of this rivalry, but the variations of matches are running thin, and if it carries on for much longer, it could begin to get stale.

2 Pointlessly Losing Matches

In WWE, wins and losses often don’t matter, with 50/50 booking being commonplace. However, when a superstar is booked to win often, it has been proven to make a difference. For example, Cody Rhodes is unbeaten since his WWE return, and that has made a big impact in him feeling like a huge star.

If Judgment Day get pulled into 50/50 booking, roll-up losses, and a lack of consistency, they will lose momentum and look like just any other wrestlers on the roster. They need to be booked strongly, losing rarely, meaning that down the line, eventual losses will mean much more.

1 Not Winning Any Championships

Even if no other superstars get added to the group, there are many potential championships to win. Edge and Priest could enter the tag title scene, or each win a world title or midcard title, and Ripley could win a women’s championship. If more people are added, then the women’s tag belts, and many more prizes could come their way.

When building up a faction such as this, dominance is key to making them feel like a big deal, and winning championships is the way to do it. To make sure they become legitimized as a group, WWE can’t have their waists bare, with titles needed to elevate them.
