10 AEW Wrestlers Who Are Using Their Real Name

Writer Liam Parker

It's very common for wrestlers to use a stage when they perform. Most of the time, they do it because their real name just isn't good enough for their wrestling career. Some wrestlers, especially luchadors, like to have their privacy, so they always use a fake name in the ring. Back in the day, it was rare for wrestlers to use their real names for a variety of reasons.

WWE usually likes to trademark their characters, so they give wrestlers a different identity on screen. AEW does the same, but they aren't too strict with ring names. They have many wrestlers who are currently wrestling under their real names such as MJF, Hikaru Shida, and Saraya. The following are some more wrestlers who don't use a stage name on television.

10 Tay Melo

Tay Conti and Sammy

Tay Melo recently changed her ring name on the AEW Rampage: Quake by the Lake. Previously, she was known as Tay Conti. Her current ring name is the same as her real name, Taynara Melo Guevara. Her first name is shortened, and she doesn't use the Guevara surname as part of her on-screen character.

Her husband, Sammy Guevara, also uses his real name on AEW programming. His birth name is Samuel Elliot Guevara. Sammy is just a nickname for Samuel.

9 Ricky Starks

Ricky Starks AEW

Ricky Starks is still quite young and has a long way to go in AEW. He's very charismatic, has great promo skills, and is beloved by the fans. Since the beginning of his career, Starks has been wrestling under his real name, Richard Starks.

Up until July, he was part of Team Taz. Powerhouse Hobbs turned on him, and this led to a match between them at All Out.

8 Keith Lee

Keith Lee has been working under his real name for over a decade now. Even in WWE, he worked as Keith Lee until the company suddenly decided to change his name to Bearcat Lee. And then a week later, Lee was released from his contract in November 2021.

WWE obviously introduced 'Bearcat' in the hopes of being able to trademark the name, but now that he's in AEW, there's nothing stopping him from being just Keith Lee.

7 Jade Cargill

Jade Cargill she-hulk

The current TBS Champion, Jade Cargill, has already become one of the top female wrestlers in the entire industry. She's heavily protected in AEW and is also given more screen time than others, but fans aren't exactly pleased with her booking.

It often feels too one-sided, and her storylines lack a certain depth needed to actually mean anything. The 30-year old superstar also uses her real name in the ring.

6 Bryan Danielson

Bryan Danielson

Bryan Danielson has worked under many ring names throughout his career. During his WWE stint, he worked as Daniel Bryan which was just a play on his real name. Bryan began his wrestling career as the American Dragon, and some years later, he started wrestling under his real name as well. WWE owned the rights to "Daniel Bryan" so he opted to wrestle as Bryan Danielson in AEW.

5 The Acclaimed

The Acclaimed has gotten over with the fans in the past few months. They are immensely popular and on the cusp of greatness. Both Anthony Bowens and Max Caster wrestle under their real name. Although Anthony did have a short stint in WWE as Anthony Vigilante.

Max Caster began his in-ring career in 2015 and has made a name for himself both in the world of professional wrestling as well as in music.

4 Britt Baker

Britt Baker AEW Women's World Champion

Brittany Baker made her wrestling debut in August 2015. She's worked for several promotions and has always wrestled under her real name. Initially, she failed to get over as a babyface in AEW.

But after taking Kenny Omega's advice, she turned heel and became one of the most popular female wrestlers in the company.

3 Danhausen

Danhausen

The very nice, very evil Danhausen initially worked as Kid Gorgeous in the independent wrestling scene. But after making some alterations to his gimmick, he became the Danhausen we know today.

At one point, he was wrestling as Donovan Danhausen which is his full name in real life. He dropped the surname in 2019 and has been wrestling with a mononym since.

2 Claudio Castagnoli

Claudio Castagnoli in AEW.

Claudio Castagnoli began his wrestling career over two decades ago. While he started as Double C, he changed his ring name to Claudio Castagnoli a few years later. When he signed with WWE, the company changed his name to Antonio Cesaro and later shortened it to just Cesaro. Claudio was one of the most underrated stars in WWE.

He is highly talented, but despite that, he was stuck in the mid-card. He was released in 2022 and made his AEW debut at Forbidden Door.

1 Miro

Miro - AEW

Miro joined AEW in September 2020 and aligned himself with Kip Sabian. The next year, he dropped the gamer gimmick and became The Redeemer. This version of him was better than his previous incarnations.

Those who follow him online know that Miro is also his Twitch name. His real name is Miroslav Barnyashev, and he uses Miro as his wrestling name because it's shorter and easier to pronounce.
