Who Do WWE Fans Dislike More?

Writer Daniel Davis

Kevin Dunn is one of the loathed personalities in professional wrestling, at least among the members of the IWC. Forget John Cena and Roman Reigns, as those two inspire hatred due to their on-screen personas while Dunn has been the public enemy of the internet fans ever since the inception of the online community.

Historically, the only person to rival Dunn in terms of sheer hatred would be Vince Russo. Yes, that is the level of rage we are talking about here, and much like Russo, Dunn is a frequent victim of nuclear outbursts from Jim Cornette, who has dubbed the WWE executive as Bucky Beaver. That being said, Dunn is one of the most influential personalities in the company.

According to wrestling lore, Dunn’s father was an employee in the olden days, and he had saved WWF tapes from burning inside a trailer. Upon this, Vince McMahon guaranteed the Dunn family a place in WWE for life.

Kevin Dunn Is An Executive For Life

Despite occupying the position of head of production, Dunn, thanks to his close ties to McMahon, exerts much influence on the creative direction of the company. Unfortunately, Dunn seems to dislike professional wrestling and prefers sports entertainment.

From being the backstage rival to Triple H to trying to halt the rise of Becky Lynch, Kevin Dunn sees WWE as more of a television show and less of an athletic spectacle. The WWE executive has his favorites, and he prefers to push people based on their looks (and accents, but more on that soon) rather than their talent in the ring, especially in regard to the female talent.

Moreover, wrestling fans can talk Dunn for Jim Ross, the greatest announcer in the history of the business, being phased out of WWE programming because apparently, Dunn dislikes southern accents. Dunn seems to harbor a hatred for accents in general and yes, that is the reason why he was against the rise of Becky Lynch. His liking for camera cuts is another reason to frown at the fellow. Seriously. Why so many cuts, especially during a wrestling match?

Kevin Dunn Vince McMahon

For many years, Kevin Dunn was public enemy number one for the hardcore fans but finally, in 2020, someone has come along to challenge the long-time executive for the not-so coveted spot, at least according to some. Enter Nicholas “Nick” Khan.

Nick Khan is the current president and Chief Revenue Officer of WWE, and so he is tasked to make sure that the company is as profitable as possible. Khan accomplishes this by releasing almost half of the roster in a span of only 2 years. The company has undergone massive cuts, unlike any other period in its existence.

Angry about the release of Cesaro, Braun Strowman, and Bray Wyatt? You can thank Nick Khan for those unjustified cuts and if history is any indicator, Khan will continue to release wrestlers for the sake of inflating the market value of the company and get himself and all the major shareholders richer and richer. This comes at the expense of entertainment value and the livelihood and dreams of so many wrestlers.

Nick Khan, much like Kevin Dunn, does not like the word wrestling, and he has flat-out said so. Instead, Khan declared WWE as a global content company and in the same interview, Khan stressed that making his customers happy was his highest priority.

In recent times, Triple H has lost favor with McMahon and AEW defeating NXT in the ratings pretty much landed Triple H in the corporate doghouse. Once seen as the successor to the company, Triple H has been largely sidelined and Nick Khan is predicted to lead the company whenever McMahon steps down.

Triple H, who was once hated as a backstage politician, garnered much support and respect for his attempt to modernize NXT and with Khan seemingly replacing the Game, fans are given another reason to hate the CFO.

Khan Has Nowhere Near The Detractors As Dunn

For all intents and purposes, Nick Khan has been doing his job well and the finances are sky-high. Sure, it is somewhat unethical to release half of the roster and grab about record revenue during a shareholder meeting, but Khan is simply doing his job to great effect. Moreover, Khan barely has any control over the ongoing storylines, and to fans, those are what matter the most.

Meanwhile, Kevin Dunn has sucked the life out of the product for a very long time and his presence has led to creative stagnancy in the company. Former employees and personalities have a lot to say about Dunn but nothing too much is said about Khan.

Granted, Khan has been president for a very short amount of time but as someone who handles corporate matters and stays away from the wrestling aspect of the business, Khan is unlikely to garner the reputation that Dunn currently has.

Nick Khan, despite his ways, is doing what is right for business, at least in terms of finances. Meanwhile, Dunn has done a lot of wrong for the business in the last 20 years or so.
