Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman & More

Writer Emma Terry

The Death of the Justice League just lived up to its lofty name, as DC's Mightiest Heroes just met their end in a dark fight.

Warning! Spoilers for Justice League #75 by DC Comics

The Death of the Justice League has delivered on its name, as the iconic superteam was killed in their most dangerous mission ever. In Justice League #75 by DC Comics, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman are among the heroes that try to stop the Great Darkness and Pariah. However, the confrontation ends with their shocking deaths that will change the DC Universe forever.

The Justice League Incarnate, arguably the greatest Justice League roster of heroes from different realities ever assembled, has failed in protecting the Multiverse from the biggest threat it's ever faced. Unfortunately for the heroes, the villain Pariah made a deal with the Great Darkness, the embodiment of darkness in the Multiverse, to effectively serve as its avatar, as he's assembled some of the deadliest villains from across space and time to lead its dark army. With the JLI realizing the Great Darkness is trying to possess the space between worlds, The Bleed, they're recruiting all the help they can get to stop it.

In Justice League #75 from DC Comics by Josh Williamson, Rafa Sandoval, Jordie Tarragona, Matt Herms, and Josh Reed, the Justice League Incarnate brings the greatest heroes from different realities to the House of Heroes. It's there, that President Superman warns them of the Great Darkness and its plans to take over The Bleed using its deadly dark army. Before the Justice League can plan an attack, they encounter the Great Darkness and Pariah on the ruins of the Multiverse. Pariah summons the likes of Darkseid, the Spectre, the Gentry, and Doomsday, all influenced by darkness, to attack the Justice League. Despite giving it all they got, when Pariah intervenes, he uses the Great Darkness to suck the life force from the heroes and stunningly kill them.

Pariah Kills the Justice League

Pariah not only uses the Great Darkness to kill Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, but he immediately kills the rest of the heroes, including Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, John Stweart, and Zatanna. Black Adam nearly becomes his next victim but crashes down on Earth after calling Shazam. Upon breaking through the Hall of Justice, Adam musters out the words, "the Justice League.. are dead," to his fellow heroes. Jon Kent's Superman, Flash, and Naomi can only look on in horror as they learn about the death of the Justice League.

DC really killed off the Justice League as the team met its dark demise against Pariah and the Great Darkness. While the heroes are unlikely to stay dead for long, as comic book characters rarely do, being so easily defeated shows the massive threat those who weren't involved in the encounter face in the upcoming Dark Crisis by DC Comics. The ripple effects of the death of the Justice League will undoubtedly be huge, as DC delivered on the lofty comic's name. Justice League #75 by DC Comics is in stores now.
