The Heartbreak Kid had a lot of accomplishments and feats in his professional wrestling career. He won titles in the NWA, AWA and, most importantly, WWE, not to mention he also earned many accolades from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Without further ado, let's take a look at Shawn Michaels' 10 greatest accomplishments in wrestling, ranked.

10 WWE Tag Team Champion

Fans think that winning the WWE Tag Team Titles is no big deal, but just stop and think about the countless wrestlers who wish they could win tag team gold in WWE. This accomplishment is ideal to start the list. And HBK didn’t do it once, but was a five-time Tag Team Champion, twice with Diesel, with Steve Austin, John Cena and Triple H. Michaels was as brilliant in tag team matches as he was in singles action.

9 WWE European Champion

The European Title has been forgotten, but at some point in history it was an important title in WWE. Several WWE legends won this championship, such as the British Bulldog, Owen Hart, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, Triple H and of course Shawn Michaels.

The Heartbreak Kid defeated the British Bulldog in the United Kingdom to become European Champion. He held the title for 82 days, until he was squashed by Triple H on the December 22, 1997, episode of Raw is War.

8 WWE Intercontinental ChampionShawn Michaels flexing

The Intercontinental Title is a midcard title just like the European Title, but the Intercontinental Championship is more prestigious, without a doubt. This title has been active since 1979, so several legendary wrestlers have held it and there have been several all-time classics for this title. Shawn Michaels was three-time Intercontinental Champion and had some epic defenses, such as the Ladder match against Razor Ramon at SummerSlam 1995.

7 WWE Hall Of Famer

Triple H Shawn Michaels Hall Of Fame

Being in the WWE Hall Of Fame is a great honor, no doubt about it, but we have to admit that lately that hall has lost prestige. There are some wrestlers, or simply individuals, who should not be in the WWE Hall Of Fame, such as Donald Trump, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Pete Rose, Koko B. Ware, among others. So, that is precisely why this accomplishment is not the most important in Shawn Michaels' wrestling career.

6 First WWE Grand Slam Champion

Did you know that Shawn Michaels was the first Grand Slam Champion In WWE history? That’s right, when Michaels won the European Title at One Night Only 1997, he became the first WWE Grand Slam Champion. He had already won the Intercontinental Title, the World Tag Team Titles and the World Heavyweight Title. To date, there have been 22 male Grand Slam Champions in WWE, so it's a special accomplishment.

5 PWI 500 #1

Topping the annual Pro Wrestling Illustrated Top 500 is no easy feat, but this is an accomplishment that could not be missed in Shawn Michaels' career. The Heartbreak Kid received this distinction in 1996, followed by The Giant, Sting, Kenta Kobashi and Ahmed Johnson.

It was a well-deserved award, as Michaels was Intercontinental Champion, World Heavyweight Champion, Royal Rumble winner, delivering several great matches, as usual. That was the only year Michaels was number one on the PWI 500. He was runner-up in 1995 (behind Diesel) and third in 1993 (Bret Hart and Big Van Vader).

4 PWI Match Of The Decade

Shawn Michaels won the Wrestling Observer Newsletter's Match Of The Year award four times (1994, 2008, 2009 and 2010) and won the PWI Match of the Year award 11 times. That's impressive enough and a great accomplishment, but Michaels went even further. HBK won the PWI Match of the Decade award not once but twice (versus Ric Flair at WrestleMania 24 and versus the Undertaker at WrestleMania 26). This is just another proof of Shawn Michaels' unique talent.

3 WWE World Champion

Shawn Michaels was a four-time WWE World Champion, and he was a great champion overall, as he brought prestige to the title. Pretty much every professional wrestler dreams of winning the WWE World Championship, and you can ask Cody Rhodes.

This is one of the greatest accomplishments a wrestler can aspire to. So why isn't this the biggest accomplishment of Shawn Michaels' career? Because in reality the following two feats are more difficult to accomplish.

2 WrestleMania Main Eventer

Shawn Michaels v Bret Hart WrestleMania 12 Cropped

Not every WWE World Champion has headlined WrestleMania, but Shawn Michaels did. Mr. WrestleMania headlined the biggest wrestling event of them all five times in his career. And while he only won one of those matches (against Bret Hart at WrestleMania 12), he always stole the show with an outstanding performance. Certainly, winning the World Championship is incredible, but headlining WrestleMania is another level of greatness, as only the best of the best are given this responsibility.

1 Back-To-Back Royal Rumble Winner

Shawn Michaels and Pamela Anderson at Royal Rumble 1995

Shawn Michaels' greatest accomplishment in wrestling was winning back-to-back Royal Rumble matches. Only a handful of great wrestlers have main evented WrestleMania, but only three men have won two Royal Rumble matches in a row, and they are Hulk Hogan (1990 and 1991), Stone Cold Steve Austin (1997 and 1998) and Shawn Michaels (1995 and 1996). Winning a Royal Rumble is hard enough and historic enough, now imagine winning it in back-to-back years. To top it off, HBK got one of those wins as the first entrant.
