Seahawks Looking For Multiple Picks

Writer Emma Terry

Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas is off to an excellent start in 2018, but trade rumors continue to swirl around the only remaining member of the legendary 'Legion of Boom' defensive unit.

Teams who want Thomas also have to know that it won't come cheap. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport(via Kevin Patra), the Seahawks want two second-round picks for the six-time Pro Bowler.

Thomas and the Seahawks are off to a frustrating 1-2 start, and he's set to hit free agency after this season. Thomas held out during preseason action in hopes of receiving a contract extension, which Seattle didn't give him. Thomas returned just days before their Week 1 opener on the road against the Denver Broncos.

The Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs have been widely mentioned as possible trading partners for the disgruntled safety. Per Patra, this year's trade deadline is on Oct. 30 at 4 p.m. EST, so the Seahawks only have a month to decide the fate on Thomas.

Thomas had 18 combined tackles, four passes defended and three interceptions through the first three weeks. Seattle let go of most key pieces from their once-dominant defense in the offseason, including Richard Sherman and Cliff Avril. Unless they're willing to give Thomas an extension, it only makes sense to trade the Pro Bowler -rather than lose him for nothing.

Dallas and Kansas City lack the big time play-makers in their respective secondaries, so landing a player like Thomas could completely change the dynamic of their defenses. It's worth noting that teams aren't allowed to extend players that they trade for mid-season, so the Chiefs or Cowboys would be taking a big risk by trading for a rental player.

The Seahawks may wait to see if they're in the playoff race by the deadline before making a decision on Thomas. But when you consider that the two sides couldn't reach an extension in the offseason, it's easy to believe that Thomas' time in Seattle is running up.
