Fans were shocked when Nam Vo left season 37 for undisclosed reasons, and now he says he was going through one of the hardest times of his life.

One of The Challenge: Spies, Lies & Allies’ most shocking moments so far was Nam Vo’s sudden, and unexplained, departure in the season 37 premiere, and he’s finally opening up about what happened. There’s been a lot of speculation about why Nam left the show, ranging from COVID-19, to another medical condition, to a more serious infraction, but based on what Nam has recently said, it was something major that kept him from competing.

Spies, Lies & Allies was Nam’s second chance at Challenge glory and a hefty monetary prize. In season 36, Double Agents, Nam kept a low profile in the competition, and it seemed like he could make it to the final. However, Nam was eliminated for medical reasons after experiencing serious problems with his back. Nam returned for Spies, Lies & Allies. Though he was partnered up with a promising rookie, host TJ Lavin announced Nam was “deactivated” and was no longer on the show.

Fans thought the reason Nam left The Challenge season 37 was due to him contracting COVID-19. Up until now, Nam hasn’t commented on why he departed the show. In a recent Instagram post, Nam spoke up about what happened, but wouldn’t reveal everything. “What I can tell you guys is...trust me when I tell you that it was one of the hardest time I had to go through in my life,” he said. “I was absolutely devastated and heartbroken. I wish absolutely nobody that kind of experience I had to go trough[sic].”

His emotional post didn’t provide a lot of concrete details, but it sounds like Nam was going through something serious. However, it doesn’t seem that Nam will be a banned contestant on The Challenge, because he hinted at a return to the show. “I survived, I recovered,” Nam said. “I get myself back up, cause I WILL NEVER GIVE UP no matter what.” Since his Double Agents debut, Nam has seemed like a promising cast member who hasn’t gotten much of a chance to actually compete.

Although The Challenge: Spies, Lies & Allies star didn’t reveal the reason for his departure, Nam did provide some context as to what he was going through at the time. Whether it was something health-related or perhaps something to do with his personal life, Nam was clearly grappling with a serious concern, and it’s probably for the best that he did not continue competing this season. After Nam’s exit due to medical concerns on Double Agents, and now his departure from Spies, Lies & Allies, he’ll hopefully get to compete on season 38.
