Meghan Markle Paid Tribute to Prince Harry at Wimbledon by Wearing a Ralph Lauren Shirt

Writer Owen Barnes

Meghan Markle's appearance at the women's final at Wimbledon 2018 is important for so many reasons, but there's one that stands out above the rest.

Attending alongside her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, Saturday marks the first time that Meghan is attending Wimbledon as a member of the royal family. Notably, the last time she was photographed at the sporting event was in 2016, right around the time that she was introduced to Prince Harry.

For her first appearance at the event as the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan selected a stripey blue and white Ralph Lauren shirt, which she paired with crisp white pants. The chic look, worn with her signature messy bun, was very in keeping with the Duchess' style, and it also paid tribute to husband Prince Harry.

When Meghan attended Wimbledon in 2016, she was a guest of Ralph Lauren, according to Elle. A source revealed to E! that it was one of Prince Harry's friends who introduced the Suits actress to the prince. Violet von Westenholz just so happens to work in PR for Ralph Lauren, and she's also a lifelong friend of Prince Harry, meaning that it was apparently easy for her to matchmake the pair.

As E!'s source reveals, "Harry was having a really hard time finding anyone... It was something he had confided in his closest friends about; he was ready to meet someone but it was so hard to actually find the right person."

So Violet von Westenholz stepped in. Allegedly, she set them up, and just two years later, Meghan is returning to Wimbledon as the Duchess of Sussex. And as the royal has selected a Ralph Lauren outfit for the event, it's safe to say that she hasn't forgotten who helped her meet her husband.
