Kyle O'Reilly Chasing Adam Cole To AEW Is Too Perfect To Pass Up

Writer Daniel Cobb

Adam Cole (sort of) shocked the system earlier this year when he showed up in AEW. While it was assumed by most that the former NXT Champion was preparing to become All Elite, it was still a very cool moment when his music hit at All Out. Since then he has rekindled his relationship with The Young Bucks and has even helped bring Bobby Fish back into the fold after he was one of the many wrestlers released by WWE this year.

Following his final match and appearance in NXT earlier this month, Fish and Cole's Undisputed Era running mate Kyle O'Reilly is also a free agent. That has understandably sparked rumors the former NXT Tag Team Champion could also be AEW-bound. It could also mean O'Reilly becomes All Elite sooner rather than later. He allowed his contract to run down like Cole which means he is free to show up and compete for another wrestling promotion whenever he likes.

Since Fish and Cole are already in AEW, the most logical, and perhaps most exciting on the surface, conclusion is that those two and O'Reilly reunite Undisputed Era. It was originally just the three of them after all before Roderick Strong was added to the mix. While that would be very cool, and would get quite the pop when first revealed on Dynamite, there's a better way to go with it in my opinion.

Adam Cole Turns on Undisputed Era

Good Friends, Better Enemies

Don't have O'Reilly introduced by Cole and pretend they're best buddies. Have the third member of UE show up unannounced and brutally attack Cole for everything he did to him before leaving NXT. It's easy to forget, despite happening less than six months ago, that Cole and O'Reilly weren't friends when the former departed NXT. They were bitter enemies, and Cole's tenure with the black and gold brand came to an end with the third of three brutal matches between the two of them.

To make the potential extended rivalry between the two even better, O'Reilly could do all this as an unsigned invader. Blindside Cole, and maybe The Bucks too, a couple of times until the point Cole compalins to Tony Khan. Whether shown or not, as Khan doesn't often appear on AEW TV, the chairman can decide to give O'Reilly a few trial matches with a view to signing him, as he has done with a number of wrestlers since AEW's inception.

There's plenty of people connected to Cole right now for O'Reilly to have those trial matches against too. Brandon Cutler, Matt and Nick Jackson, and maybe best of all, Fish. Fish came right in and remained loyal to Cole. That's despite staying out of it for the most part when the two of them were battling in NXT. O'Reilly could take issue with Fish instantly falling in line behind the man who arguably wronged both of them just a few months ago the minute he arrived in AEW.

One Big Blow-Off Match

All of this would culminate in a match between Cole and O'Reilly, of course. Perhaps even one in which they are able to go a step beyond what they were allowed to do in NXT. Maybe at Revolution, since the show is only a little more than two months away. There's definitely enough to fill two months of TV above when you throw in some build and the fact O'Reilly might not show up in AEW right away.

Having Cole and O'Reilly battle in AEW right off the bat also means once they're done, they can go their separate ways and have some matches they have potentially been eyeing up for years. Battles with Jungle Boy, Darby Allin, Bryan Danielson, and CM Punk. There's also no need to have more than one big match between them, especially after they already fought three times recently in NXT. AEW is also at risk of overdoing the big-time rematch stuff right now. Some fans weren't too keen on the Danielson versus Hangman Page 60-minute match, and it has since been confirmed the two of them will wrestle again at some point in the near future.

Once Cole and O'Reilly have got all of the big singles feuds out of their system, the UE reunion we all want to see eventually can finally come to fruition. Perhaps when Roderick Strong's NXT contract has come to an end and he can join them in AEW too should he choose to do so. It really isn't a reunion unless all four of them are there. That sort of long term storyltelling could also build to a UE versus The Elite dream match. The sort of bout none of us thought we would ever get to see. Kenny Omega has already hinted he doesn't like Cole being around. Perhaps we are already on the road to that match going down in the distant future.
