How To Pre-Save Albums On Spotify & Listen To New Music Instantly

Writer Owen Barnes

Know that an artist you like is coming out with new music? Want to be among the first to hear it? Here's how to pre-save music to your Spotify app.

Pre-save button for Spotify

Staying on top of the latest music from your favorite/band artist might sound tricky, but thanks to Spotify's pre-save feature, you can be prepared to listen to the latest EP or album the minute it's released. Being home to over 80 million songs, it's quite an understatement to say that there's a lot of music to listen to on Spotify. From old-school rock, 2000s alternative, modern pop, and anything in between, your listening options on Spotify are virtually endless.

If Spotify simply threw all of this music at you without any sorting/organization tools, things would get very hectic very quickly. Thankfully, that's not the case. Spotify has abundant features to keep your listening as focused as possible. There are dozens of personalized playlists, home page recommendations based on your listening, and ample sharing tools to help you discover what your friends are listening to.

Another way Spotify helps out here is with its pre-save feature. Spotify does a good job of showcasing new music it thinks you're interested in. In addition to sneaking new titles into your Daily Mixes, a dedicated New Music Friday playlist highlights the latest tracks available. That's great for finding new songs you otherwise wouldn't be aware of, but what about upcoming songs/albums you know are releasing soon? That's where the pre-save feature comes in handy. If an artist has enabled a pre-save campaign for upcoming music, you can visit the artist's website, select the pre-save button, and save that album to your Spotify library. When it's released, you'll get a heads-up that it's ready to listen to — and have it already saved in your library for easy listening.

That all sounds great! But how do Spotify pre-saves work? The first thing you need to do is go to the artist's website for their upcoming music. If they've opened pre-saves for their upcoming music, you should see a button that says 'Pre-Save' with a Spotify logo next to it. Click/tap that Pre-Save button. If you aren't logged into your Spotify account already, you'll be asked to enter your Spotify username/password and authorize access to the artist's website. Once logged in, follow the instructions on your screen, tap the 'Complete' button, and the upcoming music is pre-saved to your Spotify account! Depending on how the artist has set up their website, you may even be able to choose a specific playlist that you want the music added to when it's released.

Remember that pre-saving music on Spotify doesn't let you listen to it right away. You still need to wait for the music to be released before you can stream it. Pre-saving simply adds it to your library so you don't have to search for the new music when it is released. Given how crowded and messy Spotify can be at times, any helping hand in that regard is appreciated.
