How to Find (& Catch) Dracovish in Pokémon Sword & Shield

Writer Emma Terry

Pokémon Sword & Shield introduced new fossil Pokémon that can only be caught by fusing fossils together. Dracovish is one of these.

Many simulation games and JRPGs will have players digging around and fishing for treasures, and, in Pokémon Sword & Shield, this can result in finding some new, powerful Pokémon for the Pokédex. When players find fossils in Sword & Shield, they can bring the Pokémon the fossils belonged to back to life. The catch, however, is that these creatures have to be fused together to create a new creature. One new Pokémon, Dracovish, a Water and Dragon-type creature, is one such creation.

Players cannot encounter Dracovish or any of the other fossil Pokémon in the wild. Instead, they will need to find the two appropriate fossils and bring them to the NPC scientist on Route 6 for fusion. There are four fossil types in the game: Bird, Dino, Drake, and Fish. These have four possible combinations to make 4 new Pokémon: Dracozolt, Arctozolt, Dracovish, and Arctovish. Different fossil types are easier to find in each version of the game. In Sword, Bird and Dino fossils are easier to find, and in Shield, Drake and Fish fossils are easier to find. For players looking to collect all four fossil Pokémon, here is how to find and catch Dracovish in Pokémon Sword & Shield.

Dracovish is a combination of two Fish fossils and two Drake fossils, meaning Dracovish will be far easier for players with Shield to obtain than those with Sword. Typically, players can find the two fossil types that are most common in their version of the game near the scientist on Route 6. Players can get two of the other, less common fossil types from an NPC at the Pokémon Center at Stow-in-Side. Players can also get random fossils by paying the Digging Duo at Bridge Field, but this will cost them quite a bit.

The fossils in each category need to be one upper and one lower body. Players can also sometimes pick these up as glimmering objects in the Wild Area and Route 6.

The Scientist on Route 6 takes fossils and turns them into Pokemon in Pokemon Sword & Shield

Once players have two Fish fossils and two Drake fossils in their inventory, they can return to the scientist on Route 6. She will fuse them together to create Dracovish.

At first, fans were not impressed by Dracovish or its fossil relatives. However, once players noted its stats, it quickly rose in the ranks to become one of the most popular Pokémon in the game. The secret, it seems is in its signature move, called Fishious Rend. Dracovish's attack power is already good, sitting at a solid 85. However, using Fishious Rend doubles this power as long as Dracovish moves first.

Dracovish is technically powerful against famous and popular choices like Gyarados, Arcanine, and Charizard. If players have not built this one yet, they should try. Upon obtaining Dracovish, players could move on to collect the remaining fossil Pokémon in the same way.
