The series serves as a prequel and explains that SpongeBob, Sandy, and Patrick met at summer camp, but those introductions created plot holes and more inconsistencies. When it comes to SpongeBob and Patrick, the main series showed they have known each other since they were babies, clashing with what Kamp Koral revealed. To make it all more confusing, the main series has also established that their friendship is a generational thing, as various episodes have shown that their ancestors were also friends, and their family clans might even be allies. This matches with them being friends since they were babies, but not at all with meeting at summer camp when they were a bit older.

The real story of how SpongeBob and Patrick met might never be revealed in SpongeBob SquarePants, and all this mystery and confusion might even be intentional. For now, then, it’s up to every fan to decide which story is the best and which fits better with the characters and their backstories, though no matter what the real story is, the fact that these two are the best of friends won’t change.
