Game Of Thrones Star Kept Shame Bell After Production Wrapped

Game of Thrones' Septa Unella actress Hannah Waddingham says she kept the shame bell from the infamous Cersei Lannister Walk-of-Atonement scene.
Game of Thrones star Hannah Waddingham confirms she kept Septa Unella’s shame bell after her work on the HBO fantasy show wrapped. These days Waddingham is best known for playing AFC Richmond owner Rebecca on the Emmy-winning comedy show Ted Lasso.
But before Waddingham won an Emmy for playing Ted Lasso’s boss, her best-known moment came when she paraded a shaven-headed and naked Cersei Lannister through the streets of King’s Landing as Cersei faced punishment for her sins at the hands of the fanatical Sparrows. Famously, the Game of Thrones season 5 scene featured Waddingham’s Speta Unella ringing a bell and calling out “Shame!” as Cersei completed her humiliating Walk of Atonement. Cersei would of course later have her revenge on the Sparrows by destroying the Sept of Baelor with wildfire and on Septa Unella by imprisoning her in the Red Keep and subjecting her to unspeakable (off-screen) torture at the hands of Gregor Clegane.
Waddingham’s character may have come to a horrifying end on Game of Thrones but the actress’s time working on the show actually ended in happy fashion as she was allowed to keep the famous shame bell, as she confirmed on a recent episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show. Waddingham also joked to Clarkson about how when she received the bell as a gift she knew her time on GoT was wrapping up. “That’s when you know that your character is really dead,” she said. “When they give you like the hero thing of your character. They’re like, ‘And thank you very much and goodbye.’”
Indeed Waddingham’s time on Game of Thrones ended in season 6 as Cersei had her revenge on Septa Unella, locking her up and leaving her in the hands of Gregor Clegane. Though Septa Unella’s death was indeed never shown on-screen, it’s fair to assume that The Mountain did not leave her alive after finishing with her. Of course Cersei, The Mountain and most of the rest of King’s Landing didn’t have long to last, as Daenerys and Drogon laid waste to the city and most of its inhabitants in the controversial final season of Game of Thrones.
Game of Thrones was of course no stranger to controversy during its eight-season run on HBO. And one of its most controversial scenes indeed was the one where Cersei was forced to strip naked and perform her walk of shame in front of the inhabitants of King’s Landing. Waddingham herself obviously came through that divisive Game of Thrones scene unscathed by criticism, and went on to bigger and better things like playing a complex and interesting character on Ted Lasso. Now Waddingham can display her shame bell and Emmy side-by-side if she wishes.
