From Beyonce to Rihanna: NYC Homes of Super Bowl's Halftime Show Performers
James Rogers
Beyonce was the headliner of the halftime show at Super Bowl XLVII at the Superdome in New Orleans, where the Baltimore Ravens narrowly defeated the San Francisco 49ers. Her husband Jay-Z was floated as a possible collaborator, but he decided not to do it. Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, her Destiny's Child bandmates, did make special guest appearances, though.
One Beacon Court has 4 available listings from $6,500,000.
The Super Bowl XLVIII halftime show took place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, where the Seattle Seahawks defeated the Denver Broncos. Bruno Mars was the show's headliner, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers made a special guest appearance.
“I got a condo in Manhattan/Baby girl, what’s happening”...It appears the opening lyrics of “That’s What I Like” were not inspired by real life - Bruno Mars does not have any New York real estate, past or present! (Not even “Somewhere in Brooklyn.”)Katy Perry was the headline act of the halftime show at Super Bowl XLIX at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ, where the New England Patriots defeated the Seattle Seahawks. The performance featured special appearances by Lenny Kravitz (see below) and Missy Elliot, but the "Left Shark" would turn out to steal the show.
During Super Bowl 50, when the Denver Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, CA, British rock group Coldplay headlined the halftime show. Beyonce and Bruno Mars, who had been headliners in previous years (see above), made special guest appearances.
Lady Gaga was the sole headliner at the halftime show of Super Bowl LI in Houston, TX, where the New England Patriots defeated the Atlanta Falcons. The performance featured a medley of her hit songs, including selections from her album Joanne, and began on the roof of venue NRG Stadium.
Lady Gaga would later live in in a Chelsea mansion masterfully renovated with a two-car garage, home theater, climate-controlled wine room, cellar-level pool, and roof deck with sweeping views. When the townhouse went on the market at the end of 2019, Robb Report noted that she was the only person to have stayed in it. Quite a long way from her early days as an artist on the Lower East Side!
The performance took place months after Mr. Timberlake and wife Jessica Biel closed on a penthouse at celebrity favorite 443 Greenwich Street at what would turn out to be a discounted price of $20.2 million. They have since departed and made a profit on the $29 million sale. This was the couple's more successful foray into New York real estate: It would take months and several price cuts before they could say "bye bye bye" to their penthouse in Soho Mews, which eventually sold at a loss for $6.35 million.
Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and his family live in a Los Angeles mansion now, but he and his wife, model Behati Prinsloo, spent their early days as a couple in a stylish Soho one-bedroom rich in loft-like details. Like many New Yorkers, they put the apartment on the market as part of a move to accommodate their first child in April 2016. Less than three months later, it sold at the asking price of $5.5 million. More recently, it returned to the market in October 2022.
The Super Bowl LIV halftime show took place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, FL, where the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers. Jennifer Lopez and Shakira were co-headliners, and the show featured guest appearances by Bad Bunny, J Balvin, and Lopez's daughter Emme Muniz.
Shortly before Ms. Lopez expressed interest in performing at the Super Bowl, she and then-fiance Alex Rodriguez sold their three-bedroom apartment at 432 Park Avenue for $15.75 million after living there for less than a year. Rumors about the building's design flaws had nothing to do with their departure; when the apartment listed, a source told the New York Post that the power couple needed more space for when all their children from previous marriages were together. The singer is also selling a duplex penthouse at The Whitman Mansion in NoMad, but it is not currently on the market. The Whitman Mansion has 1 available listing for $11,995,000.
The show came several months after The Weeknd renewed the lease on a triplex penthouse at celebrity favorite 443 Greenwich Street. He and then-girlfriend Bella Hadid had previously rented the apartment in the "paparazzi-proof" building for $60,000/month in 2018.
But throughout this expansive lineup, only one headliner had the briefest connection to New York City: Mary J. Blige was born in the Bronx and briefly rented an apartment at The Ashley, an early entrant in the Far West Side's luxury residential renaissance.
