Every TNA Triple Crown Champion, Ranked Worst To Best

Writer Matthew Cannon

The history of TNA has only seen ten wrestlers winning the triple crown title, having won three major titles in each division. Triple crown champions have stints with a top singles title, a mid-card singles title, and a tag title run. The various levels of success show an interesting list of names that fans would expect and some that are surprises.RELATED: The Worst TNA/Impact World Champion Every Year For The Past 10 YearsTNA has employed some of the greatest performers of this generation and are still trying to build more noteworthy names in the industry. The success that came for each title holder is remembered differently for better or worse. Each of the following triple crown champs will be ranked from the worst to the best in TNA.

10 Austin Aries

Austin Aries TNA

Austin Aries has become a forgotten person in wrestling due to burning one too many bridges. TNA did manage to get the best run out of Aries when he became a triple crown champ by winning the three top prizes at the time.

The X-Division Championship reign of Aries got him over enough to challenge Bobby Roode and become the next TNA World Champion. Aries then won the TNA Tag Team Championship with Roode as the Dirty Heels to complete the triple crown.

9 Jordynne Grace

Jordynne Grace Knockouts Champion

The first woman to become a triple crown winner in TNA is current star Jordynne Grace. Quite a few women have joined Grace as names to hold both the Knockouts Championship and the Knockouts Tag Team Championship.

However, the lack of a third title for the Knockouts makes it almost impossible to become a triple crown champ. That was until Grace won the recently added Digital Media Championship as a mid-card title before dropping it to Matt Cardona.

8 Eric Young

Eric Young TNA World Champion

The long run of Eric Young in TNA as a homegrown star saw him in just about every role possible to continue adapting. Young was primarily a mid-carder for the majority of his time in the company. Multiple wins with the TNA Tag Team Championship and multiple mid-card titles made it easy to score the first two accomplishments.

The final step was the biggest win of Young’s career when defeating Magnus to become the TNA World Champion. Young isn’t one of the top names to become a triple crown winner, but he deserves to be on this list for all he did in each role.

7 Josh Alexander

Josh Alexander Impact

A recent name to find his way on the triple crown list for TNA is top name Josh Alexander. The tag team run of Alexander and Ethan Page in The North saw them winning the TNA Tag Team Championship for the longest reign in company history.

Alexander next won the X-Division Championship to get his momentum as a singles star. The third step of the TNA World Championship came when Alexander defeated Christian Cage, but he lost the title minutes later to Moose in a heartbreaking moment. Alexander may climb higher up this list if he ever has a longer world title run.

6 Abyss

Abyss James Mitchell

The TNA Hall of Fame induction of Abyss was warranted when looking back at all the things he accomplished. Abyss was a fixture in the upper card and held quite a few important titles in the TNA landscape.

The NWA Heavyweight Championship was the world title won by Abyss before TNA introduced their own world title. Abyss went on to win the X-Division Championship as a heel invading the tag division and had multiple tag title runs with the NWA and TNA titles each.

5 Chris Sabin

Chris Sabin

The success of Chris Sabin showed the importance of homegrown talents for TNA. Sabin joined the company as a relative unknown and became a fixture in the X-Division. The title was won by Sabin a record-setting eight times from the early stages to the latter years.

TNA found even more success with Sabin joining Alex Shelley to form the Motor City Machine Guns as arguably the greatest team in company history. Sabin completed the triple crown when defeating Bully Ray for a short reign as the TNA World Champion.

4 Eddie Edwards

Eddie Edwards

Eddie Edwards has become one of the most decorated stars in TNA history due to how long he’s stuck it out. TNA first signed Edwards as part of the American Wolves duo when quickly winning the TNA Tag Team Championship.

The singles push of Edwards came when Richards suffered an injury to win both the X-Division Championship and the TNA World Championship. Edwards has become one of the most consistent and reliable main eventers for the company, from the change of TNA to Impact Wrestling.

3 Samoa Joe

Samoa Joe TNA

The greatness of Samoa Joe was shown in every title picture at different stages of his TNA career. Joe broke out with an undefeated streak dominating the X-Division when winning the title to have classic matches against AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels.

The TNA Tag Team Championship was won by Joe on multiple occasions when having storylines in the tag division. Joe’s biggest victory in the company saw him defeating Kurt Angle to become the TNA World Championship for surprisingly just one title reign with the top prize.

2 Kurt Angle

Kurt Angle TNA World Champion

TNA signing Kurt Angle was a game changer for the company to appear more credible as a hopeful threat to WWE. That never panned out, but Angle did his best to help make TNA a better promotion in every way he could.

There was even a storyline where Angle held the TNA World Championship, X-Division Championship and TNA Tag Team Championship all at the same time. Angle was a highly respected champ, and someone who deserved to be a triple crown winner.

1 AJ Styles

aj-styles-tna-championship

There is no debating the greatest champions in TNA history without mentioning AJ Styles at the top of the list. Styles won the triple crown in terms of both the TNA and NWA titles when each were used in the promotion.

TNA always loved using AJ in the X-Division and tag division during his early days.

Both the NWA Heavyweight Championship win, and the TNA World Championship wins represented him reaching the top of the mountain at different stages of TNA. Styles was the best triple crown champion for TNA and will likely never be topped.
