Kurt Angle was such an intense performer throughout his time as an active in-ring performer. He made a career out of fighting through injuries, and it had quite a toll on his body over the years. While this might not have occurred during his pro wrestling career, fighting through this injury is what made Kurt Angle into what he is today. Angle sustained a severe neck injury while taking part in the 1996 Olympic trials, and had two fractured cervical vertebrae, herniated discs, and pulled four muscles, but still went on to win the trials to book his place in the US Olympic team.

He then spent the next five months rehabilitating the injuries and made himself ready for the Olympic Games, despite not being 100% fit. He went on to win the gold medal in the heavyweight class despite the injury, which gave him the opportunity to brag about how he won a gold medal with a broken freakin' neck.

6 Neck Injury - 2003

Kurt Angle has a history of nagging neck injuries and the first complication he had to endure after beginning his pro wrestling career happened in 2003 after losing his WWE Championship match against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 19.

He underwent neck surgery, performed by Dr. Hae-Dong Jho, to repair nerve and spinal damage, calcium buildup, bone spurs, and intervertebral disc problems. Angle opted for a less conventional surgery, where Dr. Jho removed only the spurs and afflicted portions of the discs. He had to remain in rehab for the next three months before he made his return on June 2003.

The first one he underwent was to remove a benign tumor from his neck. Only a week after the first surgery, he underwent emergency surgery to remove the fluid buildup on his spinal cord after all his extremities went numb.

It was quite a hectic week for the Olympic Gold Medalist as he faced one medical emergency after another. He remained out of action for another two months before he made his return in October 2015 at the Bound for Glory PPV, where he defeated Eric Young in a no-disqualification match.
