Eddie Edwards Talks Slammiversary Main Event, Gallows And Anderson And EC3 Returning
Michael Hansen
Impact Wrestling is heading into it's biggest pay-per-view of the year - Slammiversary and I was lucky enough to sit down with one of the wrestlers who will be in the main event, Impact Wrestling's current longest tenured wrestler, Eddie Edwards.

We discussed his thoughts on possibly winning the Impact World Title, the pressure he has being a veteran in the main event with two relative newcomers, Gallows and Anderson joining Impact, the mystery opponent and the potential for EC3 to return and much more!
It’s been four years since you were a world champion at Impact – what would winning the Impact World Title mean to you?
“It would mean the world. We all get into wrestling to be the best, and being the world champion, that means you are the best. In a company like Impact, that means that you’re going to be one of, if not the, face of the company. That’s what I want. I want to be the guy that puts Impact on my shoulders and says ‘okay let’s move forward, let’s see what we can do to take us to the next level.’ And that happens by winning the title. But honestly it’ll be nice to be a champion again, it’s been a while like you’ve said, so I’d like to have that championship belt in my bag!”
Is there pressure on yourself to perform in the main event with two inexperienced guys like Trey Miguel and Ace Austin ?
“Always, I always put pressure on myself. I always feel pressured. The guys in the back and the fact that it is Slammiversary and there’s been a lot of mystery, a lot of surprises, there’s been issues, there’s been changes, all feel pressure. Because we can use our momentum from Slammiversary and ride that forward and we have to, everybody has to perform at Slam, as it is the biggest pay-per-view. Thankfully, Everybody in the locker room is on the same page, we all want to go out there, we all want to kill it out there. And as long as we do that I’ll be happy!”
Who would you like the mystery opponent to be, with names like Rusev, EC3, Zack Ryder and Mike Bennett being rumoured.
For me, EC3, he was such a big part of TNA before and he’d done so much. Obviously he’s a friend, so I’d like that first and foremost, but I’d love to have some new matches with him and see what he can do now as a new person. If he comes back I’d like to see what he’d be capable of.
Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows may be joining as a tag-team, would you like to face them if you find a partner, do you think it's a good thing for Impact
“Yeah, I think those guys coming would be a huge thing for Impact, it would get people talking and that’s what we want. We want people to talk about us and get excited. I’d love to have matches against them, I’ve not wrestled either one before, so that’s something I’d love to do. So if those two come and they’re involved in singles, or tag-team, it would be a good thing for Impact.”
Note: Anderson and Gallows have since appeared on Impact and have announced they have signed for the company, here's the video
Impact has been going back to its roots in TNA with Moose bringing back the TNA World Heavyweight Title and teases for the Aces and Eights. Do you think this is a good idea?
I think it’s cool, you know, times are different right now. And with Moose, I think he’s done a great job with representing it, the ‘TNA World Heavyweight Championship’. I think it’s smart to potentially bring people back, and bring stuff back like that. TNA has such a rich history that it’s smart to do that, definitely, it gets people talking. And now Moose goes out there and represents TNA every week. I think it’s a good move.
You’ve been with Impact for six years now, which is a long time there, how are you backstage, do you consider yourself a locker room leader.
Yeah, it feel strange to say that I am the longest tenured wrestler at Impact. I am having the be the ‘locker room leader’ but I want to be one of those guys that people can come to if they have issues. I want to be that if people have issues with each other or the office, or whatever, that I will try to help if I can, and at least point them in the right direction. Some people do say that I’m the locker room leader, but I just want to be the guy that people come to.
The Impact women’s division is one of the best rosters of female wrestlers we’ve seen, what are your thoughts on them and would you want to wrestle any of them?
Impact has been doing women’s wrestling right for so long now. We had the Knockouts year’s ago and I feel we were ahead of the curve and now we have a roster of women that I feel is unreal, an amazing roster from top to bottom. And it’s getting so deep now that people are talking about bringing the Knockout Tag-Team Titles back, and the fact that’s even a possibility just shows the strength. And it’s got my wife in it, so you know, it makes it that much better! As far as wrestling any of them, if it’s meant to happen, it’ll happen! So, I look forward to seeing what the women do in the Gauntlet match at Slammiversary and obviously there’s Jordan [Grace) and Deonna [Purrazzo] as well. So I’m excited about the future!
You were involved in the incident with Sami Callihan where you got hit with the baseball bat and had the major eye injury. That was turned into an angle and became quite a big thing with a lot of people finding it controversial, particularly with Callihan using it to get heat. Looking back, do you have any regrets with how that angle played out.
No, I’m happy it happened. I’m not happy it busted my face obviously, I’d rather that didn’t happen. But because there’s no long-term injury I’m cool with it, and I’m happy with where it took my career because it forced me to think outside the box, it took my outside of my comfort zone. It turned me into who I am today and today I’m the most confident I’ve ever been in terms of character, in-ring, outside the ring, wrestling, all of it. I think we did the right thing with it, we turned lemons into lemonade.
You can watch Slammiversary on FITE and you should, because it'll be an amazing show!
