Darth Vader's Jabiim assault in Obi-Wan Kenobi pays off an iconic moment from The Force Unleashed, putting the Sith Lord's power on full display.

Darth Vader Pulling The Ship Pays Off A 14-Year-Old Star Wars Dream Featured

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 5.

Darth Vader pulling an entire transport ship down in Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 5 pays off a 14-year-old dream from one of the most iconic Star Wars games of all time. Closing in on his old master thanks to the efforts of the Third Sister, Darth Vader's desire for revenge gives him a singular mindset, one where he refuses to be hindered by any obstacle that might stand in the way of making Kenobi suffer. As a result, Obi-Wan Kenobi sees the Dark Lord using the Force just like Starkiller in The Force Unleashed.

In Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 5, Darth Vader and the Empire have come to the planet of Jabiim after following the tracker Reva had placed in Princess Leia's droid. Sending Reva and a battalion of stormtroopers to cut off Kenobi's escape with the secret network known as The Path, Vader eventually comes out of his ship after he believes his old master has been trapped. In truth, Reva let Obi-Wan go as a means to distract the Sith Lord, giving her a chance to destroy Darth Vader herself (revealed to be her true goal as an Order 66 youngling survivor).

Arriving just as The Path's transport ships are leaving, Darth Vader uses the Force to grab the first one he sees, keeping the ship in place despite the straining engines. The moment mirrors an iconic moment from 2008's The Force Unleashed video game where Darth Vader's secret apprentice used the Force to bring a Star Destroyer crashing back down to the surface. Pulling the trapped ship back down into the hangar, the Sith Lord rips the hull off the ship apart only to find that it is a decoy, allowing the real transport vessel containing Kenobi and the other fugitives to escape the system. Nevertheless, the scene is a true display of the Dark Lord's immense power in the dark side of the Force.

While Darth Vader's very powerful secret apprentice Starkiller and the events of The Force Unleashed games are now considered Legends and not part of the official Star Wars canon, the Sith Lord pulling off such a similar move in live-action is very exciting and undoubtedly satisfying for longtime Star Wars audiences. While it should be noted that Rey Skywalker and Kylo Ren had a similar tug-of-war with a transport ship in The Rise of Skywalker as the ship was trying to take off, the moment was overshadowed by Rey struggling with her power and the resulting Force lightning that destroyed the ship. In contrast, this new scene with Vader sees the Sith Lord quickly bringing the ship down before using the Force to tear it apart, an act which better realizes The Force Unleashed moment in live-action.

Seeing Darth Vader's power on full display is very exciting, both in regard to the ship and in his subsequent duel with Reva, who chose that moment to seek her own revenge on the Dark Lord. However, mirroring The Force Unleashed's greatest scene in live-action is certainly a great bonus for this episode. It also teases a truly exciting duel between Darth Vader and his old master as Obi-Wan Kenobi approaches its finale.
