Chris Jericho Was Once Threatened With Assassination In Abu Dhabi

Chris Jericho was once threatened with assassination during an overseas tour for bodychecking someone in a nightclub.
Seven days prior to being thrown off the top of a cage on Dynamite, Chris Jericho delivered one of the most passionate promos of his career. Le Champion dropped a lot of information during his speech, including an allusion to a time Jake Hager saved him from being assassinated. Jericho has now elaborated on that story, explaining exactly what happened during an appearance on Wrestling Observer Radio.
While Hager didn't literally save Jericho's life, the incident did indeed happen, and Hager had a front row seat. "We were in Abu Dhabi and we were in a club. Some guy was being a jerk, so I walked by him and gave him a body check into the wall," Jericho explained. That person proceeded to tell the veteran his dad owned 27% of the UAE, the Middle Eastern country where the incident took place.

Despite being threatened with assassination, and having a $7 million bounty placed on his head, Jericho claims he took that chance to poke the bear. "Is $7 million good?’ If I was Brad Pitt would it be $30 million? If I was a guy off the street would it be $100,000?" Jericho asked the man making the threats. It was at this point Hager urged Jericho to leave.
Other than the show, Jericho spent the rest of that day hiding out in his hotel room. That was until he got wind that Hager and some other wrestlers had returned to the nightclub. Jericho joined them there and the bouncer joked about him not having been assassinated yet. When asked if he should be worried, the doorman said no and that the guy in question threatens people with assassination all the time.
While Jericho wasn't assassinated on Dynamite this week, MJF pretty much did the next best thing. After forcing The Inner Circle to surrender or he would throw Y2J off the top of the cage, MJF went ahead and did it anyway even after getting what he wanted. Fans are split over whether the scary bump Jericho took looked all that good. Any fall from 20 feet in the air is a spectacular one, and better a fall like this one than the bump Matt Hardy took against Sammy Guevara.
