Candice LeRae's NXT Contract Ending Soon, Extension Not Yet Discussed

Writer Emma Terry

When AEW first launched, WWE was so hot on contract expirations and extensions that some Superstars were kept under contract simply to prevent them becoming All Elite. Fast-forward two and a half years and WWE has seemed completely unaware in some cases that contracts were coming to an end. Adam Cole, Bryan Danielson, Johnny Gargano, and Kyle O'Reilly all neglected to sign new deals, allowing their contracts to expire so they could leave WWE.

Candice LeRae's Contract Is Almost Up

Speaking of Gargano, the former NXT Champion's next port of call remains unknown. Candice LeRae remains under contract with WWE, although a new report from Fightful Select has revealed that will not be the case for much longer. LeRae's contract apparently comes to an end this spring, and since the NXT Superstar has been on maternity leave following the birth of her and Gargano's first son Quill, an extension has not been discussed.

Some fans were wondering whether LeRae's contract had been frozen while she was on maternity leave. That tends to be what happens when a wrestler under contract with WWE picks up an injury. Jeff Hardy and Neville, now Pac, have fallen foul of that clause in the past. However, pregnancy thankfully doesn't appear to have fallen under that same clause, which means LeRae's contract has continued to run while she's been away having and caring for her baby.

Expiring This Spring

The exact date LeRae's NXT contract comes to an end hasn't been revealed. However, it has been noted that whether the former Tag Team Champion intends on extending her stay in WWE or not, she likely won't sign a new contract before her current deal comes to an end. WWE officials don't want to bother her so soon after having her baby, so it might be a while before we discover what's next for LeRae in the ring.

The same applies to Gargano, and even though we will soon be in a world where neither he nor LeRae are officially WWE Superstars, WWE is very keen to keep them both with the company. Gargano's last act before his contract came to an end was to be attacked by Grayson Waller during his farewell promo, seemingly setting up an angle for if and when he returns. Perhaps the two have agreed to return once LeRae is ready and they have spent the first few months of their baby's life with Quill.
