NXT has a new face, and his name is Bron Breakker!
Breakker defeated Tommaso Ciampa in the main event of New Year's Evil 2022 to become the NXT Champion, ending Ciampa's 113-day-long reign in the process.
It all went down on Tuesday, January 4 at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. Ciampa and Breakker went one-on-one for the second time in 10 weeks (their first match was at last year's Haloween Havoc), but this time it was the so-called rookie who came out on top. Ciampa won the match via submission when Ciampa tapped out to Breakker's version of the Steiner Recliner.

Breakker (real name Bronson Rechsteiner) signed with WWE in February of this year. At WrestleMania Backlash on May 16, Breakker portrayed one of the "zombies" in the lumberjack match between Damian Priest and The Miz. In August, he portrayed a security guard during an NXT segment featuring Samoa Joe and Karrion Kross. The segment concluded with Breakker being choked out by Joe.
The 6ft, 230 lb athlete is a former NFL player who was waived by the Baltimore Ravens in 2020 has now made a name for himself in sports entertainment. The 24-year-old comes from wrestling royalty, so his success in WWE was almost an inevitability. His father (Rick Steiner) and uncle (Scott Steiner) were one of the most formidable tag teams of the 80s and 90s. The Steiner Brothers won titles with NWA, IWGP, WCW, and WWE.
Ciampa's second reign began on the debut episode of NXT 2.0 when he fought off four of his NXT colleagues in a Fatal Four-Way main event.
Ciampa's first reign as NXT Champion began on the July 25, 2018, episode of NXT on which Ciampa defeated Aleister Black. Due to a serious neck injury that required surgery, Ciampa was forced to relinquish the NXT Championship on the March 20, 2019, edition of NXT, ending his first reign at 237 days.
