Booker T Says Darby Allin Will Be Crippled By The Time He's 40
Liam Parker
There has been a debate in the wrestling world that wrestlers like AEW's Darby Allin give way too much to the industry. A man willing to do almost anything, try almost anything and put his body through almost anything for a match, prior to Allin wrestling Jeff Hardy on Dynamite a couple of weeks ago, he suggested the promotion throw the rules out and let the two men kill each other, because that's what fans wanted to see. Regardless of his being right or wrong, what toll with this play on his career?
According to one Hall of Famer, a big one.
Booker T recently noted when speaking about Darby Allin on the latest episode of the Hall Of Fame podcast, that the wrestler might be doing too much. He said of Allin's physical style and disregard for his own body, "Darby Allin is going to be a cripple by the time he's 40 years old." He added, "He will not be able to walk. He will have so much surgery done on his body by the time he turns 40. It's not going to be funny. And God bless him for putting his body on the line for the business."
Booker T might be right, but there are others who argue that Jeff Hardy has wrestled a similar style and is still going strong, well into his 40s. Booker T sort of disregarded the question about Hardy and maybe he was right too as Hardy is potentially the exception to the rule and not the rule. He's also dealt with his own demons during his career, most of them drug and alcohol-related. It's not clear how much of that was related to pain Hardy might have been in from some of the incredibly insane bumps he took.

Is It Worth It?
Booker T adds that Allin isn't the only one who uses this kind of style to get over and wonders why AEW doesn't take more advantage of a bump like the one he took on the chairs in his match against Hardy. If the wrestlers are willing to do this, why not promote it for all that it is? Otherwise, it's not worth it, argues Booker.
He'd rather see AEW find different ways to get their talent over than by letting them destroy their bodies week after week and get no milage out of it. The mentality is to always give a little more and for what?
