Alistair Overeem And 20 Ex-WWE Stars Announced For AOP Promotion's First Show

Writer James Rogers

It's not often that a wrestler is released by WWE and you then hear almost nothing from them for well over a year. Even if that star doesn't show up elsewhere after 90 days, they usually check in on social media or appear on a podcast or two. The Authors of Pain haven't really done that, probably because they've been busy building a wrestling promotion of their very own.

Wrestling Entertainment Series

That promotion is now ready to go. Named Wrestling Entertainment Series (WES), its first show will take place in Nottingham, UK on June 4, 2022. AOP has organised the event but will also be competing on the show to be crowned the inaugural WES Tag Team Champions. Their opponents will be Wesley Blake and Steve Cutler, recognizable from their time in NXT.

Blake and Cutler won't be the only former WWE Superstars on the show. Nia Jax will be competing against CJ Perry aka Lana for the WES Women's Title. The pair has a storied history in WWE after Jax put Lana through tables for ten weeks in a row, or was it 11? Meanwhile, Braun Strowman will be taking a break from the CYN grind in an attempt to become the new promotion's first World Champion.

Alistair Overeem's Wrestling Debut

Strowman, or perhaps that should now be Adam Scherr, will certainly have his hands full. His opponent at the event will be former UFC fighter, Alistair Overeem. This will be Overeem's pro wrestling debut and a surefire way to tempt some non-wrestling fans to the show. Scherr has previous in this arena despite not having competed in MMA himself. The former Universal Champion was the one tasked with taking on Tyson Fury in his first wrestling match.

If you don't live in the UK, or you don't fancy flying in for the show, the whole thing will stream live on Fite when it goes down on June 4. 21 wrestlers have been announced across eight matches, and every single one of them aside from Overeem has previously competed in WWE.
