AEW Collision's Debut Episode To Be Dubbed "The Second Coming"

Writer Emma Terry

Although not officially announced by AEW just yet, it has become common knowledge that the promotion will likely be starting a new weekly show a little over a month from now. That show will probably be called Collision, and reports suggest CM Punk will be its star attraction. In fact, it's believed Collision's debut will be where we see Punk next.

The Second Coming

The reported tagline for Collision's debut episode has poured a lot more fire onto the rumors suggesting that will be where Punk makes his triumphant AEW return. According to this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the tagline for Collision's first episode will be The Second Coming. A strong suggestion that's where Punk makes his re-debut, and a tagline that probably has some in AEW rolling their eyes.

As recently as three months ago, Punk returning to AEW seemed like an impossibility. Now it seems inevitable, and AEW appears to be marketing it much in the same way it did when it first signed Punk. While no official announcement was made, there was so much chatter that Punk would be on an episode of Rampage in his hometown of Chicago in 2021 that everyone knew he would be there even though nothing was ever confirmed.

The Re-Debut Of CM Punk

That seems to be what's going to happen with Collision, and we may well get confirmation the new show is in the offing as soon as this coming Wednesday. Another Tony Khan announcement has been teased for next week's Dynamite, during which the owner will likely detail what's to come as it seems likely a TV deal has been struck between the promotion and Warner Bros. Discovery.

There's been talk that the new deal could be worth as much as $1 billion and span the next five years. If it is going to be a deal on that scale, it will almost definitely include the rights to all of AEW's TV shows, not including ROH, and perhaps even PPV rights with the tentpole shows moving to Max. The imminent announcement of a new deal also explains why Dark and Dark: Elevation have been axed.
