7 Wrestler Daughters You Didn't Know Are Following In Their Parent's Footsteps

Writer Matthew Cannon

There are lots of second or third-generation wrestlers trying to live up to their parent's names or even eclipse it. With World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE,) there's this hype around lineage, but we need to understand how bookings work.

In the first place, we're quick to label brand new WWE signees "future main eventers" until their career doesn't, well, skyrocket. Wrestlers with catalytic first names have come and gone, many more fail than make it. Regardless of how the company uses them, how much hearts they have for wrestling, and how many paychecks they ever saw in their star-gazed dreams, it's never a given that second-generation wrestlers will be stars.

Legacies are a big part, nevertheless. A good number of women have followed in their father's (and in remarkable cases, mother's) footsteps to WWE. Some are currently fighting on Raw and Smackdown. A lot more others still ply their trade on the independent circuit. Some are superstar managers. In this article, we take a look at some of the second or more-generation wrestlers (particularly the far less obvious ones) with last names that ring a bell.

7 Lacey Von Erich

Lacey von Erich is the embodiment of a lengthy wrestling pedigree passed on to a third-generation member of the Von Erich family. The entire dynasty was instated into the WWE Hall of Fame almost eleven years ago for their contribution to the industry. Kerry Von Erich, known by his stage name Texas Tornado, was a boyhood hero to WWE Fans. His daughter, Lacey, followed in his footsteps for several years, following a short spell in WWE's then-developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW).

Lacey's iron claw hold was so vicious it never misses in her heydays with the Beautiful People. She always carried a pink nightstick around the ring (dubbed Lacey's Ugly Stik). Winning the Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Knockouts Tag Team Championships was the highpoint of her year-plus contract with WWE, before her departure in late 2010. Lacey now runs an advertising company in California.

6 Jessie Belle Smothers

You may forget to have Tracy Smothers in your Mount Rushmore of ECW wrestlers, but there's no denying he's a 30-year ring veteran and the author of the hot phrase "Everybody Dies." His daughter, Jessie Belle, has been on TNA's developmental territory, Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), since her debut in 2011.

Jessie Belle has held OVW's women's championship belt 11 times. She also wrestles for Florida Underground Wrestling (FUW), Classy Broads Wrestling, Women of Wrestling (WOW), and Shine Wrestling. She has yet to hit the big time but looks pretty worked up for it.

5 Cheerleader Melissa

TNA fans remember her for her gimmicky ring names Alissa Flash and Raisha Saeed. Melissa Anderson is, by all means, one of the elite women on this list. The 15-year ring veteran is the daughter of Doug, who had an uncelebrated stint in the 80s. She also competed as Cheerleader Melissa during her two-year tenure with the TNA.

WWE wouldn't necessarily be nursing having a 37-year-old on their promotion at this point. She has put together a great career nonetheless as one of the big names on the indy circuit at the turn of the century. She's probably one of the veterans that could give the division a promotional push after all.

4 Mikala Smith

Many years ago, before the facts were widely known and published, Grizzly Smith fought in a tag team known as the Kentuckians, but that's a story for another post. His son wrestled as Sam Houston, who married valet extraordinaire Nickla Roberts better known by the name Baby Doll. Does this add up yet?

27-year-old Mikala is one of few women that can claim both parents as performers in the industry. She currently competes as Samantha Starr - Jake 'The Snake' Roberts and Rockin' Robin are her uncle and aunt, respectively. She won the Vixen's title by Vicious Outcast Wrestling (VOW) in 2016. Mikala didn't come out of the blue into the ring but served as a valet for four years.

3 Shaul Guerrero

Wrestling is a cosmetic business. It's no wonder Shaul Guerrero developed an eating disorder. Before the ups and downs synonymous to even the most cherished professional wrestling career, the diva better known to NXT fans as Raquel Diaz spent a couple of years in FCW/NXT. She never made it back to professional wrestling as a wrestler but as a commentator and a ring announcer for WOW.

She's currently married to a wrestler in Aiden English, but her wrestling heritages comes from being the eldest daughter of the Guerrero family, where both Eddie and Vickie were mainstays on WWE tv for years.

2 Alana Leslie

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet, but when your godfather is Hulk Hogan, that's a privilege. The family connection comes with the business, yet not every second-generation wrestler becomes a star. Alana Leslie was hoping to have a similar career path as her father Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake when she signed with Jersey Championship Wrestling in December 2013.

She's not been spotted by any of the promotions to date, and her chances of any WWE contracts look bleaker than the possibility of succeeding on social media.

1 Tamina Snuka

Again, what's in a name? Then, why isn't Tamina Snuka a champion if success in the industry were to go by last names? She's one of a few WWE divas to keep theirs - noteworthy enough for the energy announcers put into yelling daughter of legendary Hall of Famer Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka.

The 42-year-old famed for her Samoan Drop and Superkick moves has been on the WWE roaster for over a decade now. She's also graced the ring with The Usos, challenged WWE Divas Champion Beth Phoenix, has no liking for any of the popular wrestling shoes (a tribute to her dad who also fought barefoot), and, most recently, lasted less than a minute in the women's Royal Rumble match, having entered at number 14. She hasn't gained much success as a performer. Did I hear you say her time's up?
