5 Feuds We Want For Sheamus' Return (& 5 WWE Should Avoid)

Writer Daniel Davis

In recent weeks WWE has been teasing the return of the Celtic Warrior, Sheamus, which is something that the WWE Universe is very excited about. A former WWE Champion and a fantastic in-ring talent, he will be a welcome addition to the SmackDown roster. The vignettes have teased Sheamus returning as a heel, with the Irishman complaining that the SmackDown roster isn't what it once was. He has claimed the roster has gotten soft and the titans he used to face are no more.

His return to the world of wrestling is set to come very soon, but who he will target first remains to be seen. With that in mind, let's take a look at five feuds we want to see for Sheamus, and five WWE should avoid.

10 Want: Mustafa Ali

Sheamus claimed he is coming in to bring the physicality back to SmackDown, claiming that the division has gone soft. Because of that, it seems like he will instantly be targetting smaller talents such as Mustafa Ali. Ali is a very popular WWE Superstar and a fantastic underdog which would pair well with Sheamus' brutality. The Irishman is a very physical wrestler and matching that up with Ali's in-ring style could create some really fun matches.

Ali has been lacking a top singles storyline for quite a while now and this could get him right back on track before WrestleMania. As well as that, it would be a brilliant way of establishing Sheamus as a real threat once again.

9 Avoid: The Miz

Sheamus and The Miz just doesn't feel like a storyline that anybody is asking to see. The Miz has never been a titan or a dominant force, mainly because he has been a heel for most of his career and has been fairly cowardly.

So Sheamus coming in and trying to bring that back out of Miz wouldn't make much sense. Neither of them wrestles a very flashy style either, which might not create the most interesting matches. While they are both great on the microphone and could likely talk fans into the building, the end result might not live up to the hype.

8 Want: Kofi Kingston

If Sheamus doesn't believe SmackDown is serious enough, then an instant target for him would be the New Day. Their joking and fun-loving personalities are the exact opposite of what Sheamus' character appears to be. WWE could play off the fact Kofi Kingston seemingly doesn't care about losing his WWE Championship as a way to set this up. With Sheamus using that as 'proof' that the SmackDown roster isn't what it once was.

Of course, the two men have faced each other plenty of times before, but they do always create good matches. If WWE was to give them some time, then they could make a very interesting storyline from this.

7 Avoid: Braun Strowman

Obviously, seeing Sheamus and Braun Strowman slug it out could be very entertaining, and it would certainly make Sheamus seem like a top threat. But that doesn't necessarily mean it will translate into a great storyline. Sheamus is coming in and claiming he is sick of what he has seen on SmackDown. He has promised to bring physicality, but surely that storyline would mean he needs to go and destroy a bunch of smaller talents first.

This would be an interesting storyline for later on though, perhaps after Sheamus has bullied and beaten a few names, not before or right away. Having the big Braun come in would provide a real test to see what Sheamus is made of, but only after the proper build up.

6 Want: Shinsuke Nakamura

Shinsuke Nakamura might be a heel, and WWE is seemingly keeping Sheamus that way as well, but that doesn't mean this feud couldn't happen. The Intercontinental Championship is the only title Sheamus hasn't held, and there's no doubt he wants to change that.

The Celtic Warrior deserves to become a Grand Slam Champion, and if he was able to pick this up on the Road to WrestleMania, it would give him a big spot on the show. Actually utilizing this title and making it relevant again is something WWE desperately needs to do. Having a fresh Sheamus who has had nearly a year off television win it would do just that.

5 Avoid: Cesaro

While Sheamus feuding with Shinsuke Nakamura would be interesting, that doesn't mean he needs to take on Cesaro as well. Cesaro might be working alongside Nakamura, but competing against Sheamus doesn't make sense.

Even though we know they can have great matches against each other, their previous feud is what led to their tag team being created. The duo was so successful together that it wouldn't make sense for them to randomly now hate each other. In the long run, fans would actually like to see The Bar back together again. But while they enjoy singles competition, it is better for them to do that apart.

4 Want: Shorty G

shorty G

When Sheamus' first vignette aired to promote his return, Shorty G was a name that he mentioned as someone he wants to hurt. Therefore he is certainly a name that Sheamus could end up feuding with. This would make perfect sense, after all, Sheamus is coming in as a big bully, and Shorty G's gimmick is all about stopping that.

WWE is high on Shorty and giving him a featured storyline against someone like Sheamus would be a way of showing that. However, it also isn't a storyline that is impossible for Sheamus to win. WWE will want him back as a dominant heel and therefore in his first feud, he needs to dominate. Facing Shorty would allow him to have some great matches, but ultimately be the one who comes out on top.

3 Avoid: The Fiend

The Fiend vs. Finn Balor (Summerslam, 8/11/2019)

Sheamus has claimed that SmackDown has become too soft, but The Fiend certainly doesn't fall into that category. Bray Wyatt's new personality is savage and destructive and is the opposite of what Sheamus has claimed.

Therefore it would be smarter to keep the two men away from each other for as long as possible. There is no real interest from the WWE Universe in seeing this feud, at least for now, so it is best to not start here. The Fiend is better picking off victims who appear vulnerable, like The Miz and Finn Balor, rather than dominant and strong wrestlers such as Sheamus.

2 Want: Daniel Bryan

A perfect storyline that WWE should consider for Sheamus would be against Daniel Bryan, who has recently returned to being a babyface. The Celtic Warrior and Bryan have a longstanding history together, and it would be great to write another chapter of that.  When Bryan has finished feuding with The Fiend, transitioning into a storyline with Sheamus could be the right way to keep him relevant. With Sheamus' obvious size and strength advantage, it would be a very interesting match up to have them compete.

Bryan and Sheamus always have incredibly hard-hitting matches when they face each other, and that would certainly help re-establish Sheamus. Putting him against a top talent like Bryan would make him a major name once again, and if WWE is planning on doing that, then this is the way to go.

1 Avoid: Roman Reigns

It would appear that WWE is planning on bringing Sheamus back as a heel. Therefore there is a chance they might decide to throw him in a feud with Roman Reigns, but that would be a major mistake. Sure, it's the easy option as Reigns is one of the top babyfaces in the company.

However, he still gets plenty of mixed reactions at best, and that could lead to fans actually cheering Sheamus because he is a well-known and popular talent. This potential feud might put Sheamus straight back into the main event scene, but it also might derail his character development. It's tough to come out of a feud with Reigns and actually win it, so for now, this is one to avoid.
