10 WWE Main Roster Wrestlers Who Should Be Drafted to NXT

Writer Isabella Bartlett

With the WWE Draft once again upon us, Triple H has revealed that it "will truly change the game." The promise that every WWE superstar will be eligible would seem to indicate the involvement of NXT. But while that does add intrigue and could bring about welcome change given how watered down the brand split has become, we have seen it before.

On top of the standard Raw/SmackDown moves, we've also seen NXT call-ups tied to the Draft. One thing we haven't seen: main roster stars drafted to NXT. That may seem like an unwelcome demotion for some, but superstars like Dolph Ziggler, Apollo Crews, Jinder Mahal and the New Day have shown how NXT can offer a refreshing change to a wrestler otherwise lacking opportunities.

10 Butch / Pete Dunne

Butch-Pete Dunne

While some superstars see an initial main roster push regress into disappointment, Pete Dunne's Butch character was pretty well dead on arrival. A standout in NXT and NXT UK for his methodical, vicious style, 'Butch' was immediately reduced to being a lackey for Sheamus as part of the Brawling Brutes.

A return to NXT would afford Dunne the opportunity to engage in compelling matches and feuds while even taking the mic occasionally. For that matter, tag partner Ridge Holland would do well with an NXT reunion too. Send Dunne back for a while, only to return to the main roster as the Bruiseweight.

9 Dolph Ziggler

Going to NXT last year for a feud with Bron Breakker and the briefest of championship reigns stands as the only real highlight of Ziggler’s career of late.

However, the Breakker feud only scratched the surface of what Ziggler could do as part of the brand as an elite seller who can also handle the mic. Is a passive-aggressive backstage feud with Mustafa Ali really doing anything for the long-time WWE veteran at this point?

8 Piper Niven

NXT Piper Niven

By any name, Piper Niven has experienced a disappointing main roster tenure. Even after her bewildering early booking and identity issues, she still has yet to gain any traction despite a lack of top heels on the female Raw roster.

In NXT, Niven could be aligned with any number of top heels or simply pushed as a force of nature. A David vs. Goliath feud with Roxanne Perez practically writes itself.

7 Viking Raiders

While they are still part of the tag scene on SmackDown, it's probably safe to say that any efforts to push the Viking Raiders as a formidable heel tandem have fallen by the wayside.

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn winning the Undisputed Tag Team Championships should've made the Raiders' path to the titles clearer, but the champs remain engaged in main event-level feuds far beyond Erik, Ivar and Valhalla's mid-card status. Surely there is a place for a tough, long-standing team featuring a remarkably athletic big man somewhere in NXT.

6 Mustafa Ali

Mustafa Ali's new gimmick

Is it really this hard to find something to do with a charismatic, smooth-talking wrestler who thrills in the ring? WWE's booking of Mustafa Ali has been so bad that his current 'phony positivity' heel character is based on his real-life frustration stemming from that booking.

Meanwhile, in NXT, joining a roster that already features high-flyers like Wes Lee, Axiom, Dragon Lee and Nathan Frazer would potentially give Ali his most exciting showcase since 205 Live.

5 Angel Garza

Remember him? According to cagematch.net, Angel Garza has made just two appearances on WWE TV so far in 2023, losing a No. 1 contender's tag team tournament match alongside Los Lotharios teammate Humberto Carrillo and getting eliminated in the Andre the Giant battle royal.

Hard to believe that Garza was such a mainstay during the ThunderDome era. The ladies' man could benefit from a reset in NXT while interacting with some of the brand's male - and female - stars.

4 Lacey Evans

Lacey Evans

It's now been just over a year since Lacey Evans returned to WWE after maternity leave, but you could be forgiven if you forgot that she ever actually returned at all. The creative team seemed unable to decide whether she should play heel or face and, as a result, she hasn't maintained a clear, sustained character direction and has barely been on TV.

This past year stands in stark contrast to her pre-pregnancy push, in which she feuded with Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair and Asuka. It might be time to go back to the drawing board for Evans.

3 MVP

The Hurt Business

For now, MVP seems to be a mouthpiece without anyone to hype up. The Hurt Business reunion was reportedly scuttled and Omos hasn't really found much momentum despite a feud with Brock Lesnar.

If the wrestling veteran were to make the move to NXT, he would provide the brand with a manager who could handle promo work and help mentor developing talent. Maybe he could even create a new Hurt Business featuring the likes of Odyssey Jones, Damon Kemp and Edris Enofe and Malik Blade.

2 Alexa Bliss

We haven't seen Alexa Bliss on WWE TV since losing to Bianca Belair at the Royal Rumble PLE and her hiatus doesn't seem to be coming to an end anytime soon.

Assuming her skin cancer treatments are completed and there remain no current plans for her return, a stint in NXT makes a lot of sense. The talented and multi-faceted Bliss could get the character reset she desperately needs while also bringing added depth to the brand's women's division.

1 Ricochet

Ricochet with the NXT North American Championship

Since debuting on the main roster back in 2019, Ricochet has seen various start-and-stop pushes, including stints with the US and Intercontinental Titles and a short feud with Brock Lesnar. None of it, however, has been sustained and his current tag partnership with Braun Strowman doesn't appear to have long-term potential, either.

In fact, the last time the former Prince Puma felt like a big deal was during his NXT tenure. A return would allow him to mix it up with other high-flyers and carve out a meaningful role, although moving from the brand of his current girlfriend (Samantha Irvin) to that of his ex (Katana Chance) may present a problem.
