10 Stupidest Gimmicks To Ever Enter The Royal Rumble
Michael Hansen
With 30 spots to fill each year, the Royal Rumble match is never going to be full of main event World Champions every single time. The match is always varied, having some legitimate contenders, mid-card talents, and normally a few comedic spots thrown in for good measure.

Because of that, it is no surprise that there have been some terrible gimmicks to enter this match. Characters that have absolutely zero chance of winning and are purely in the match to fill the numbers. Sometimes, it can lead to some hilarious Rumble moments, and other times, it can be forgettable filler, but there have certainly been some shocking entrants throughout history.
10 Michael Cole (2012)
When it comes to stupid gimmicks entering the Royal Rumble match, the decision to throw in the commentator is certainly up there. Michael Cole was always a horrible wrestler during his brief in-ring run, and nobody wanted to see more of that.
He entered with his ridiculous orange singlet and headpiece and quickly decided to run away when Kharma was chasing him down. In truth, it was a waste of a Rumble spot and something that was also a complete waste of time.
9 Drew Carey (2001)
Another one of the dumbest gimmicks to enter the Royal Rumble match was Drew Carey, who remains the only celebrity in history to get involved in this match. Seemingly being done for comedic purposes, this entrance was one that certainly raised a few eyebrows.
He did hilariously offer Kane some money to help in the match, but it quickly led to the comedian jumping out of the ring. Again, it was very stupid considering the fact that Carey wasn't even a physically impressive celebrity, so nobody took him seriously.
8 Fake Diesel (1997)
The fake Diesel and Razor Ramon characters were absolutely dreadful, with nobody ever buying into them. Thankfully, WWE eventually realized that, but not before each man could enter the Royal Rumble match.

Fake Diesel stands out more from the two of them, simply because WWE had him be part of the final four, for some reason, despite the fact that nobody took the gimmick seriously.
7 Santina Marella (2020)
So far, the women's Royal Rumble matches have managed to avoid having too many ridiculous gimmicks enter the matches. However, in the 2020 Royal Rumble, Santina Marella's surprise entrance proved that even this match isn't safe from stupid gimmicks.
Santina was never a popular gimmick during its initial run, with Santino portraying a female talent, and that hadn't changed in the time it had been gone. The appearance was one that angered some fans, and ultimately, it was a very lame gimmick to put in.
6 Vickie Guerrero (2018)
As noted, the women's Rumble hasn't had as many stupid gimmicks enter, Vickie Guerrero has also proven that the women's match isn't exempt from stupid moments. She entered the Royal Rumble in 2018, screaming into the microphone as she made her way to the ring.

Considering the fact that Vickie was never a professional wrestler, and was instead always an on-screen authority figure, her entering the Rumble made no sense whatsoever.
5 The Bezerker (1993)
The Bezerker is a perfect example of a stupid gimmick that never had any right to be involved in the Royal Rumble match. The Viking style character was incredibly poor, and it wasn't one that ever got over with the fans.
Having him involved in the match made no sense at all, as nobody wanted to see this character compete in such a big bout. However, WWE put him in, and he lasted five minutes within the match. He was known for throwing people over the top rope, yet it didn't translate to the Rumble.
4 Kwang (1994)
Just one year after The Bezerker got to appear inside the Royal Rumble, WWE decided to roll out Kwang. This was another terrible gimmick and was one that didn't have a very good appearance to go with it.
It was one that stood zero chance of actually winning the match, and was a bad idea as soon as it happened. However, Kwang managed to last five minutes, although he scored no eliminations.
3 Duke 'The Dumpster' Droese
WWE's obsession with occupation gimmicks was something that plagued the '90s and while a couple of them managed to be memorable, Duke 'The Dumpster' Droese wasn't one of those.

He was a waste of an entrant into the Royal Rumble and one that shouldn't have been involved. To make matters worse, this was actually the major #30 entrant to the match, which obviously fell incredibly flat. Adding even more to it, he beat future World Champion Triple H to earn that #30 spot.
2 Gillberg (1999)
Gillberg was a gimmick created purely to take a shot at WCW and the Goldberg character. It was nothing more than a comedic gimmick that was never meant to be taken seriously, so seeing him enter the Royal Rumble was a ridiculous moment.
Gillberg took part in the 1999 match and didn't even last 10 seconds before being tossed out by Edge, to the surprise of nobody. It was a funny gimmick but one that didn't belong in the Rumble match.
1 Hornswoggle (2008)
Hornswoggle was always a comedic character, and while his work with Finlay was great, he wasn't taken seriously as an in-ring talent. While he can compete and have fun matches, the idea of him winning a Royal Rumble is beyond stupid.
Hornswoggle is the smallest wrestler to ever compete inside the Rumble, which tells you why it was a dumb idea. He was never going to be able to throw other wrestlers over the top rope and win, which made his entrance utterly pointless.
