10 Most Unlikable Wrestlers In AEW History, Ranked
Matthew Cannon
It is a wrestler's job to figure out a way to get the audience to feel a certain reaction when they step through the curtain and enter the arena. Whether they are trying to be cheered for or cheered against, it takes hard work to get a massive number of people to feel the same way towards you. All Elite Wrestling is home to some of the most talented wrestlers currently, and roughly half of that roster are heels trying to get the fans to hate them.
10 Most Unlikable Tag Teams In AEW History, Ranked
These AEW tag teams have proven just how unlikable they can be with their antics!A group of these heels do their job so well that they are beyond the typical heel and fans tend to despise seeing them truly. So let's look at the past and present roster of AEW and see what wrestlers are the easiest to hate simply because they are great at their jobs.
10 "J-E-Double-F, J-A-Double-R-E-Double-T" Jeff Jarrett
AEW Tenure 2022-PRESENT
- Has Been A Heel For The Majority Of His Career.
- Recently Started To Be Loved By A Vocal Part Of The AEW Fanbase.
- Works Backstage With AEW To Help With Live Events.
The man who loves to swing guitars made his first appearance with All Elite Wrestling in November 2022 and has since become a majorly hated heel for the company. Despite this, his comedy and character have started to become well-liked by a large portion of fans, whether it be ironic or not.
Jarrett has been a breath of fresh air in AEW with his recent title matches getting fans on the edge of their seats hoping that Jarrett doesn't dethrone a champion.
9 "The Hollywood Hunk" Ryan Nemeth
AEW Tenure 2021-PRESENT
- Working Outside Of Professional Wrestling, Such As His Appearance In "The Iron Claw".
- Doesn't Wrestle On AEW Television Often And Mostly Appears Backstage.
- Also Does Stand-Up Comedy Alongside His Brother.
Ryan Nemeth was a constant character on AEW Dark when it was still around, but has sadly since been relegated to a few backstage promos on social media. His character is an easy heat magnet as he calls himself "The Hollywood Hunk" and tends to act smarmy and over the top.
Nemeth plays this character well and has a lot of charisma, something that seems to help with his ventures outside professional wrestling.
8 "The Machine" Brian Cage
AEW Tenure 2020-PRESENT
- Has Been A Heel For Most Of His AEW Tenure.
- Is A Very Divisive Character For Fans.
- Has Held The ROH Six-Man Tag And FTW Titles.
Brian Cage was a pretty big deal when he joined AEW as he was a former Impact and Lucha Underground Champion. In large part, most of the reaction Cage gets is due to his work, as he has proven to be a decent monster heel working alongside The Embassy as of late.
A vocal group of fans started to dislike him early in his AEW run when his wife started posting things on Twitter boasting about him and talking poorly about AEW due to his booking at the time.
7 "Pretty" Peter Avalon
AEW Tenure 2019-PRESENT
- Mostly Works As A Jobber In AEW.
- Teams With Ryan Nemeth And Shares A Similar "Handsome" Gimmick.
- Lost 27 Matches Before He Got His First Win In AEW.
Peter Avalon is hated for many of the same reasons his tag partner Ryan Nemeth is hated. They both use a similar gimmick based on how attractive they are, which is typically easy heat, and are super charismatic with the ability to get fans booing them.
6 Current AEW Wrestlers Who Have "Go Away Heat"
The fans let their boos do the talking when these AEW wrestlers are on screen! Also, similar to Nemeth, Avalon doesn't get the chance to appear on television all that often, and when he does, it is typically to put over some other talent and make them look good.
6 "The Guv'nor" Anthony Ogogo
AEW Tenure 2019-PRESENT
- Former Professional Boxer With A Record Of 11 Wins And 1 Loss.
- Started Wrestling In 2019.
- Trained By Dustin Rhodes And QT Marshall.
Anthony Ogogo was thrown in the deep end rather quickly as he was slotted into a top feud with Cody Rhodes in 2021. Fans felt he was not ready and hadn't seen much of the British star before receiving such a major push.
The feud wasn't received well and Ogogo hasn't fully recovered from the hate he received. Ogogo is still wrestling with AEW and even making appearances outside the promotion with companies such as RevPro and PROGRESS.
5 The Punjabi Giant, Satnam Singh
AEW Tenure 2021-PRESENT
- Works Alongside Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Jeff Jarrett.
- Former Basketball Player That Was Drafted To The NBA.
- Has A Decent Win-Loss Record In AEW.
Satnam Singh left the world of basketball in 2019 after a stint with the National Basketball League of Canada and a run with the Dallas Mavericks D-League affiliate, the Texas Legends. Officially arriving at AEW in 2021, Singh was quickly paired with Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Jeff Jarrett.
This group has helped Singh as a character and worked in getting him over as a heel. Also, similar to Jarrett, fans don't want to see him capturing a title anytime soon as he is often teaming with Jarrett. The group had a recent shot against The Acclaimed for the AEW World Trios Titles.
4 The Kingdom's Matt Taven
AEW Tenure 2022-PRESENT
- Second Ever ROH Grand Slam Champion.
- Has Been A Heel For Most Of His Career.
- Teams With Mike Bennett To Form The Kingdom.
Despite being a multi-time champion and one of the most decorated figures in Ring of Honor history, fans never got behind Matt Taven and have despised his time as World Champion and any major push. Part of that is because he plays the role of a heel so well and seems like the exact type of person most fans wouldn't want beating stars they like.
With the recent reveal of "The Devil" in AEW, Taven could start to play more of a prominent role on television and see if fans' perception of him changes anytime soon.
3 "The Supernova From Moldova" Marina Shafir
AEW Tenure 2021-PRESENT
- Strongly Disliked By A Large Portion Of Wrestling Fans.
- Has A Legit Fighting Background From Invicta FC.
- Previously Worked In WWE.
Marina Shafir has been disliked by audiences for the majority of her wrestling career. She does play a heel character, but the hate she receives has been more focused on her performances in the ring and on the microphone.
10 Bad AEW Wrestlers Who Still Had A Memorable Moment
While AEW has featured some less-than-stellar wrestlers, some still managed to have a memorable moment!Shafir does seem to be improving with every segment and match she has, yet that hasn't stopped fans from blindly disliking her based on past examples. Here's to hoping things change for her as she could be a strong talent for ROH and AEW with a bit more work.
2 Mogul Affiliate, Parker Boudreaux
AEW Tenure 2022-PRESENT
- Has Been Compared To Brock Lesnar Due To His Appearance.
- Previously Worked In WWE.
- Hasn't Gotten Much Of A Chance To Showcase Himself In AEW.
Another name that wrestling fans tend to dislike strongly is Parker Boudreaux. He was signed to a contract with the WWE with no real wrestling experience under his belt and many fans noted that it was likely due to his likeness to Brock Lesnar, as the two have a similar build.
After departing the WWE, he was signed to AEW and soon paired with Ari Daivari and Slim J for a brief time. The partnership ended and Parker was paired with Swerve Strickland as a member of the Mogul Embassy before suffering an injury and disappearing from TV.
1 The Nightmare Family Member, Q.T. Marshall
AEW Tenure 2019-2023
- Worked As A Wrestler And Backstage Producer For AEW.
- Long Time Friend Of Cody Rhodes.
- One Of The Most Hated Heels In AEW.
Q.T. Marshall recently announced that he is resigning from AEW as both a producer and wrestler at the end of 2023. Now that his career with AEW has wrapped up, it is time to notice the work he put in as one of the most hated heels that the company has ever had.
Anytime Marshall was put on-screen, fans voiced their displeasure with whatever new stable or gimmick it was he was putting out there. His work with the Nightmare Family, QTV, or The Factory has been considered some of the absolute worst AEW has created. Tony Khan did say that Marshall is welcome back whenever and that any company would be lucky to work with him.
