10 Jobbers You Forgot Challenged For A World Championship
Daniel Davis
Most of the time a World Championship match is between two high-caliber wrestlers, as, after all, not just anyone can win such an important title. However, throughout history several jobbers have been given world title opportunities, looking to complete the upset victory and achieve the ultimate glory.

These types of matches happen to ensure a quick victory for the champion, making him look dominant. It's a choice that has worked well for WWE time and time again. Sometimes though, these jobbers are actually getting a chance to showcase their skills in the world title picture. Without further ado, let's take a look at 10 jobbers you forgot challenged for a World Championship.
10 Shannon Moore
Shannon Moore worked for WWE for six years, he only won 15 televised singles matches and lost 81. This is the perfect definition of a jobber. Believe it or not, Moore challenged for a World Title not once, but twice. On the December 18, 2003, episode of SmackDown, he challenged none other than WWE Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar.
Obviously, Moore was dismantled in less than two minutes. A year later, on the December 30 edition of SmackDown, Moore was destroyed in 18 seconds by Heavyweight Champion John Bradshaw Layfield.
9 Gillberg
Beyond being a comedy gimmick, Gillberg could also qualify as a jobber, as he won five singles matches and lost 60 over the course of his WWE career.
On the third episode of SmackDown, Gillberg challenged for the World Heavyweight Title, which was held at the time by Triple H. Gillberg managed to hit two Spears, but still didn't last two minutes against the fierce and powerful Triple H, who showed no mercy.
8 Maven
Maven worked for WWE for almost four years and his greatest accomplishment was winning the Hardcore Championship three times. Despite being a jobber, he challenged for a World Championship three times.
His first time was against Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho during the January 28, 2002, episode of RAW, losing in three minutes. A couple of years later, Maven had two matches against World Heavyweight Champion Triple H, one on Sunday Night Heat and another on RAW. At least neither of those were squash matches, as Maven held on for more than 10 minutes and actually showed off his skills.
7 Muhammad Hassan
You probably remember Muhammad Hassan, who had a controversial gimmick that didn't work and that's precisely why his WWE career was fleeting. Still, he had two world title opportunities, against two of the main faces of the Ruthless Aggression Era, Batista and John Cena.

Hassan faced off against the Animal on the May 30, 2005, episode of RAW, and he challenged the Cenation Leader on June 20 also on the red brand. Hassan lost both matches, lasting less than eight minutes combined.
6 Horace Hogan
Hulk Hogan made sure his friends got jobs and opportunities, so obviously he would do the same for his family. In fact, his nephew Horace Hogan worked for WCW for a couple of years, even though he was a mediocre worker.
Horace even received a WCW World Heavyweight Title opportunity against Jeff Jarrett on the June 28, 2000, episode of Thunder. The bout was terrible, and the five-minute duration felt too long.
5 Rick Fuller![Rick Fuller]()
Certainly, the win-loss record is not that important in wrestling, but it works to reflect a wrestler's jobber duties. Rick Fuller had a singles record of 8-39 in WCW, being defeated by the likes of Hail, The Demon, The Wall, The Cat, Prince Laukea, among others.
Still, Fuller challenged World Heavyweight Champion Goldberg on the September 10, 1998, edition of Thunder. Unsurprisingly, Goldberg destroyed him in 97 seconds.
4 James Ellsworth
James Ellsworth wasn't exactly a jobber, as he wasn't even a full-time wrestler, but somehow that makes the fact that he challenged for a World Championship all the more incredible.
Ellsworth had a small feud with WWE Champion AJ Styles in 2016, which led to them facing off for the title twice on SmackDown Live. Ellsworth won the first encounter by disqualification, while being squashed in the second and last bout.
3 Kenny Dykstra
Kenny Dykstra is primarily remembered for the scandal involving him, Mickie James and John Cena. In fact, Dykstra blames Cena for his lackluster WWE career. Regardless of that, Dykstra was never anything more than a jobber in the company, but he did have a WWE Heavyweight Title opportunity against, you guessed it, John Cena.

That match took place on the May 1, 2006, episode of Monday Night Raw. Cena had trouble winning due to Spirit Squad interference and, in addition, special referee Triple H was also against Cena. Still, he managed to retain the title.
2 Buddy Landel
You may have forgotten about Buddy Landel, or you may have no idea who he was. He had a handful of matches in WWE, and one of them was for the World Heavyweight Championship.
On the January 13, 1996, episode of Mania, Buddy Landel had the audacity to take on one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, Bret Hart, who held the title at the time. Obviously, The Hitman won the match without breaking a sweat.
1 The Genius
Randy Savage's brother, The Genius, worked for WWE for seven years. He was primarily a jobber and was stuck on the undercard. However, he did challenge for a World Championship on one occasion. On November 25, 1989, on Saturday Night's Main Event, The Genius faced off against none other than World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan.
There was no way Hogan was going to drop the title, but the ending was not as obvious as expected, as the Genius won by count out. This match was pretty entertaining, by the way.
