10 Great Last Man Standing Matches You Probably Forgot About

Writer Owen Barnes

A Last Man Standing match is one of professional wrestling's most brutal match types. Pinfalls, submissions, and count-outs are invalid in this match, and a wrestler has to incapacitate his opponent and make him stay down until the referee counts to ten to pick up the win.

Almost every pro-wrestling promotion uses this stipulation to elevate or culminate high-profile feud between their top performers. The wrestlers can use any weapon of their choice as the match cannot end in disqualification, and that takes things to the extreme.

Over the years, we have witnessed many memorable Last Man Standing matches across all major promotions, and the performers put their bodies on the line for our entertainment. With that said, let's take a look at ten great Last Man Standing matches we might've forgotten.

10 Matt Hardy Vs. EC3 - Impact, January 2016

Matt Hardy found a career resurgence in Impact Wrestling and got catapulted into the main event status, putting him in contention for the Impact World Heavyweight Championship.

Matt Hardy had to relinquish the Impact World Championship after EC3 filed an injunction that banned him from appearing on Impact for a month. But Hardy got another shot at the title on the January 19, 2016, episode of Impact when he faced EC3 in a Last Man Standing match.

Matt Hardy picked up the win and the Impact World Championship when EC3's associate Tyrus betrayed him and helped Hardy win his second world title.

9 Mick Foley Vs. Ric Flair - Impact, October 2010

Remember the time when TNA/Impact Wrestling managed to bring in WWE and WCW legends like Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Mick Foley, Booker T, and Eric Bischoff? It was back in 2010, and the promotion cashed in on the legends' popularity to bring in more viewers.

TNA revived an old rivalry when they introduced Mick Foley as the leader of the ECW alumni stable called Extreme Version 2.0 and had them feud with Ric Flair's stable, Fortune.

Flair and Foley competed in a Last Man Standing match on the October 7, 2010, live edition of Impact. Both Foley and Flair became a bloody mess as the match involved the use of thumbtacks, barbed wire boards, and tables. Foley managed to knock out Flair for the ten-count and picked up the win.

8 John Cena Vs. Bray Wyatt

While John Cena is getting ready for a showdown with the Fiend Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36, Wyatt mentioned his loss to Cena at WrestleMania 30 as the sole reason behind the Fiend's recent challenge to the 16-time WWE Champion. However, Cena holds another victory over Wyatt, as he won a Last Man Standing match at Payback 2014.

Wyatt looked to avenge his loss at WrestleMania and vowed to knock out Cena at Payback. Both superstars overcame the other’s finishing move multiple times, and the Usos came to the aid of Cena to even the odds when the other members of the Wyatt Family intervened.

Cena picked up the win after knocking out Wyatt with an AA through an equipment crate to culminate the feud.

7 Undertaker Vs. Big Show - Cyber Sunday 2008

The Big Show has turned heel more than anyone can count throughout his career, and he chose the wrong person to mess with after siding with Vickie Guerrero and attacking the Undertaker in 2008.

Big Show defeated The Undertaker by knock out at No Mercy 2008 but paid his dues when he faced the Deadman in a Last Man Standing match at the Cyber Sunday PPV.

Big Show took Undertaker to the limit in the match but succumbed to the Phenom's Hell's Gate and passed out, allowing the referee to finish the ten-count.

6 Edge Vs. Chris Benoit - Backlash 2005

After losing the World Heavyweight Championship to Randy Orton, Chris Benoit started a feud with Edge. It all started when Edge deserted Benoit during their tag team title match against La Resistance at Taboo Tuesday 2004.

Edge took the feud to another level after he knocked Benoit off with a chair shot to win the Money in the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania 21.

The two superstars looked to end their rivalry when they faced off in a Last Man Standing match at Backlash 2005. Edge picked up the win after knocking out Benoit with a brick shot to the back of his head and had him down for the ten-count.

5 Kane Vs. Chris Jericho - Armageddon 2000

No sane person would walk into a Last Man Standing match against the Big Red Monster Kane. However, Chris Jericho decided to defy the odds and had a brutal match against Kane at the Armageddon PPV in 2000.

Their feud started when Kane defeated Jericho at Survivor Series 2000 and once again at the Rebellion PPV. Both superstars looked to end their feud in a Last Man Standing match at Armageddon.

It was a hard-hitting 16-minute contest that saw Jericho pick up the win after knocking down a bunch of stacked barrels on Kane to keep him down for the ten-count.

4 Bully Ray Vs. AJ Styles - Slammiversary IX 2011

AJ Styles entered into a feud with Bully Ray after the latter powerbombed him off the stage and through a stack of tables and injured his neck. The injury put Styles out of action until the Phenomenal One returned to confront Ray at the 2011 LockDown PPV.

After a series of events, both Styles & Ray clashed in a Last Man Standing match at Slammiversary IX to culminate their feud. The match went on for a full 20-minutes, with both performers taking each other to the limit.

Styles performed an elbow drop on Ray from the top of a steel structure through a table. Before Styles could get back to his feet, Bully Ray pushed him head-first through the stage and had him down for the ten-count to pick up the win.

3 Randy Orton Vs. CM Punk - Extreme Rules 2011

CM Punk became the leader of the New Nexus in 2011 and started a feud with Randy Orton after costing him his WWE Championship match against The Miz at the 2011 Royal Rumble PPV. Orton took out every member of the New Nexus with punt kicks, leading to a match against Punk at WrestleMania 27, where he walked out with the win.

Their feud culminated at Extreme Rules 2011 when they clashed in a Last Man Standing match. The anonymous Raw General Manager banned the members of the New Nexus from ringside during the contest leaving Punk to deal with Orton alone.

Orton picked up the win after hitting an RKO from the top rope on Punk that put him down for the ten-count.

2 AJ Styles Vs. Kurt Angle - Hard Justice 2008

AJ Styles was a part of Kurt Angle’s Angle Alliance group in 2008, and things became personal between the two after Styles began a storyline affair with Angle’s wife Karen. Styles married Karen on the February 14, 2008 episode of Impact, which took things to a new level.

The two looked to settle the score with a Last Man Standing match at Hard Justice 2008. Impact booked the contest under the Texas Death match rules where Styles must pin or submit Angle and also had to keep him down for the ten-count to win.

Styles picked up the win after driving Kurt Angle headfirst onto the ring mat, making him unable to answer the ten-count.

1 Triple H Vs. Ric Flair - Survivor Series 2005

After Triple H couldn’t regain the World Heavyweight Championship from Batista, he took a brief hiatus from WWE to heal minor injuries. He returned to action on the special WWE Homecoming edition of Raw on October 3, 2005, and teamed up with his former Evolution partner Ric Flair to defeat Chris Masters and Carlito.

But Triple H turned on Flair and attacked him after the match. It led to a steel cage match between the two at Taboo Tuesday in which Flair walked out with the win.

However, Triple H got the last laugh in the feud after facing him in a Last Man Standing match at Survivor Series 2005. Flair stood up even after taking three pedigrees from the Game but had to stay down for the ten-count after Triple H hit him in the back with a sledgehammer.
