10 Characters Jim Should Have Been With (Other Than Pam)

Writer James Rogers

Jim and Pam seemed like the perfect couple in The Office, but there were other characters that Jim would have been great with.

Jim and Pam were part of what made The Office so special. We watched these two forbidden lovers become best friends and later, husband and wife. The beloved couple had a rough patch in the ninth season, which caused controversy among Office fans, but it all worked out in the end.

However, what if Pam ended up marrying Roy? What if Jim and Pam never became an item? This would leave Jim totally single and looking to replace Pam. Although there weren't too many women we saw Jim romantically involved with (he literally had three girlfriends on the show: Pam, Karen, and Katy. We met enough women in Scranton that could have gelled nicely with Dunder Mifflin's most eligible bachelor. Keep scrolling to see who made our list!

10 Was There Ever A Chance Between Jim & Kelly?

Hear us out. From a distance, Jim and Kelly seem like a horrible couple. He couldn't last a day working behind her when he switched desks. She talks too much and seems more interested in shopping than in pranking her co-workers. Plus, even if Jim did ask Kelly out, she would have cheated on him with the next fly guy that gave her the eye. Nevertheless, some fan theories believe Jim put the moves on Kelly.

After he tells Kelly Ryan isn't interested in her, he tells her to let loose and have fun and coincidentally invites her over his house for a poker tournament with some friends. Was this his coy way of asking her out? Some fans think so.

9 Jim And Erin Would Have So Much Fun Playing 'Sneaky Sneaks'

From a distance, Erin seems way too childish and immature for Jim but... wait a second. Jim is also pretty immature and childish. He also has a thing for receptionists!

Throughout the series, these two never had a chance, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't be a good couple (at least for a short while). They both enjoyed playing pranks on people, they both worked at Dunder Mifflin, and he could have given her the security she's always been looking for in a family setting.

8 Karen Could Have Been The One That Got Away

Karen and Jim had a real connection, but his love for Pam outgrew his love for Karen. When the two met at the Stanford branch, they quickly became friends, but it was clear that Karen had growing feelings for him after she drove him home when he was too drunk. From there on, the two seemed closer than ever.

Karen transferred to Scranton for work but let's be honest, Jim helped her make that decision. Jim might have gotten cold feet by how serious Karen was getting, but wasn't Jim ready for a full-on relationship with marriage and kids? It's not like he and Pam took their time in that regard when he left Karen.

7 Katy Was Diehard For Jim

The Office Jim and Katy

Ah, "Purse Girl." Amy Adams portrayed Katy and did a great job of being stunned by Dunder Mifflin's weirdness. Dwight and Michael both tried to pursue her, but in the end, she chose Jim (duh).

Jim put the moves on Katy, and the two dated for a little bit before breaking up with her on Booze Cruise, but these two could have been end-game. Sure, he mocked her for being a cheerleader, but her perkiness was a great counter for his sarcasm.

6 Cathy Simms Wanted More (And Fans Theorize She Got What She Wanted)

There's a theory floating around that Jim cheated on Pam while he was in Philadelphia and with Cathy Simms when the two were in Florida. We all know Cathy liked Jim from the start, but Jim was married to Pam at the time (with children, no less).

However, what if Jim and Pam never happened, and Cathy was placed next to Jim when Pam was on maternity leave with her pregnancy with Roy? With these two next to each other—and Cathy flirting up a storm—there's no reason why these two wouldn't have hooked up.

5 Dakota Showed Up Too Late

To be fair, we only saw Dakota a few times in the ninth season, but let's use our imaginations for this one. She came to Dunder Mifflin as Jim and Pam were quitting for a new life in Austin. She filled the accounting position after Kevin was fired and was left to fix the work he butchered after years of service.

Dakota was young, seemed bright, and apparently had a small thing for Clark. Now, Plop looked more like Jim than Clark did, but Clark isn't too far off from the kind of guy Dakota seemed to like. If Jim were single, would these two make a match?

4 Val & Jim Could Have Been A Power Couple

Jim was wrapped up in Pam, and Darryl was consumed by Val, but let's pretend Darryl and Pam weren't in the picture for now. Let's say Pam was busy with Roy, and Darryl was still hooking up with Kelly. There's nothing saying Jim and Val couldn't have made a connection.

They both worked for the same company, which would keep them "honest" (as Phyllis would say), and they had a similar flare to them. We didn't see Val's playful side, but she was mature and level-headed enough to make a solid partner for Jim.

3 Carole Stills Was Both Quirky And Mature

Carole may have been Michael's ex-girlfriend (and a divorcee and a mother of two children), but she actually seems like a great candidate for Jim. Despite their age difference, Carole and Jim could have worked out pretty well. For starters, Jim loves kids, so it was only a matter of time to see if Carole wanted more kids if she and Jim got together.

Second, Michael was immature, loved pranks, and was goofy, but he was a tad too goofy and unrealistic for Carole. Jim, on the other hand, had a similar personality (humor wise) to Michael, but he was far more mature and knew when things were out of line. This duo could have been perfectly matched!

2 It's Hard To Ignore Esther's Beauty

Esther was Dwight's almost-fiance in the ninth season. The two seemed like a great couple due to their love and understanding for farming, but he ultimately couldn't let go of Angela (and made the right choice in choosing her). However, despite Ester being a simple farm girl, she was stunning and seemed to appreciate Dwight's business-like attitude.

If she and Jim met through Dwight, she would have happily followed Jim to Austin where they could live on a farm, but Jim could still go to work every day. Esther seemed much younger than Jim, but she was ready for a mature relationship.

1 Jim Could Have Had His Eye On Jessica

Jessica and Andy dated in the eighth season until he broke up with her for Erin. But maybe that was for the best. Maybe Jessica was better suited for a guy like Jim. If Jim were still single and Jessica was looking to get out of her relationship with Andy (and met Jim along the way), they could have gotten along swimmingly.

Jessica was silly enough to like Andy's personality, which meant she would have swooned for Jim's. She also had a group of awesome friends who could have gotten along well with Jim's. In a strange universe, Jim and Jessica could have totally worked.
