10 Biggest Gentlemen In Wrestling History, Ranked
Liam Parker
Pro wrestling is a sport that unlocks the beast in every competitor. Usually, the ones who succeed are those that tapped into their aggressive side and shunned any regard for others' welfare. It's amazing, then, that there are wrestlers in WWE and other promotions who have achieved greatness while upholding integrity inside and outside the squared circle.
10 Best Babyfaces From WWE's Attitude Era, Ranked
These babyfaces helped lead the charge during WWE's Attitude Era!The word "gentleman" isn't usually synonymous with success in wrestling, but some fellows are to be admired for their class and chivalry as much as their championship resume. By being gentlemen for a huge chunk (if not the entirety) of their careers, these wrestlers have proven that nice guys don't always have to finish last.
9 Bret Hart Was A Great Technician And A Good Man
A Gentleman On His Own, A Villain With Others
Decade | Matches | Wins | Win % |
|---|---|---|---|
1970s | 78 | 29 | 37.2% |
1980s | 1,473 | 767 | 52.1% |
1990s | 1,396 | 1,083 | 77.6% |
2000s | 6 | 1 | 16.7% |
2010s | 11 | 10 | 90.9% |
High character was among the many things that Bret Hart excellently executed. Before loud personalities like Steve Austin and D-Generation X redefined the moral fabric of the WWE, Hart was - for the most part - an even-keeled gentleman who let his in-ring work do the talking.
Perhaps Hart's most beloved gesture was his habit of giving his signature glasses to a youngster in the audience. His track record as a good fellow, however, is compromised by the heinous acts he committed during multiple iterations of The Hart Foundation.

The story of Magnum T.A. - a competitor who seemed destined for the World Championship in the 1980s - deserves to be revisited frequently. Before a car accident forced his premature retirement, Magnum was a charismatic performer whose handsome features were complemented by his valor and integrity.
In a scene worthy of a Tom Selleck series, Magnum once came to the defense of his mother. During a contract signing for an NWA United States Title match, his opponent Nikita Koloff insulted Marion Allen, who had accompanied her son to the signing. To avenge his mother's honor, Magnum let his fists fly.
He did, however, make the unwise move of getting physical with NWA President Bob Geigel, who went on to strip Magnum of his US Title.

Before The Rockers and The Hardy Boyz captured the imagination of wrestling fans, Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson made hearts flutter across the United States. During the heyday of The Rock 'N' Roll Express, their entrance to the ring was made special by thousands of screaming fans who might as well have been cheering The Beatles.
10 Things Fans Should Know About The Rock 'n’ Roll Express
Modern wrestling fans should know their history, like The Rock 'n' Roll Express and their impact on the industry.Throughout their career, Morton and Gibson repaid the support of their adoring fans with a genuine appreciation and a never-say-die attitude. The two members of the Express actually had a rivalry of their own in the early 1990s, but this bickering turned out to be short-lived.

Reliable, well-mannered, and extremely competitive, Tito Santana was a fixture of WWE's Golden Era. From the first WrestleMania all the way to WrestleMania 9, Santana remained steadfast in his morally upright ways as an in-ring competitor and steady presence in the locker room.
During Santana's WWE Hall of Fame induction in 2004, his inductor Shawn Michaels admitted that his personal and professional success was rather enviable. If you have one of the greatest in-ring performers singing your praises as a wrestler and as a man, you know you've set the bar tremendously high.
5 Bruno Sammartino: Pro Wrestling's Conscience
Bruno Didn't Have An Easy Life But Was A True Gentleman And Professional
Title Reign | Date Began | Date Ended | Total Number of Days |
|---|---|---|---|
1 | May 17, 1963 | Jan. 18, 1971 | 2,803 (7 years, 8 months) |
2 | Dec. 10, 1973 | Apr. 30, 1977 | 1,237 (3 years, 4 months) |
The terms "fighting champion" and "fan favorite" have been in circulation for many years, and Bruno Sammartino might very well be responsible for that. Thanks to his lovable traits of courage, honor, and perseverance, Sammartino enjoyed WWE Championship reigns that essentially amounted to 11 years.
It wasn't just the WWE Title that The Italian Strongman defended with a passion. When the company went with a raunchier product during the Attitude Era, Sammartino voiced his displeasure at the prolific use of vulgarity. Thankfully, both parties got on the same page once more when Sammartino - the tireless gentleman - joined the 2013 class of the WWE Hall of Fame.
4 Dusty Rhodes: The Gentle Son Of A Plumber
A Great Man Bred By Hard Times

Jim Crockett Promotions | 571 | 74.5% |
American Wrestling Association | 225 | 60.5% |
World Wrestling Entertainment | 236 | 73.5% |
He's just a common man, sure, but Dusty Rhodes is also worthy of being called a gentleman. The antithesis of elite playboys like The Four Horsemen, Rhodes distinguished himself through his down-to-earth character that Ric Flair just couldn't break.
10 Dusty Rhodes WWE Moments You Totally Forgot About
Many fans might have forgotten these Dusty Rhodes moments in WWE.As a polka dot-clad competitor in the WWE, Rhodes was kind enough to let a female fan named Sapphire dance with him in the ring after matches. Sapphire eventually joined forces with Rhodes as his manager, and the two even competed in a mixed tag team match against "Macho King" Randy Savage and Queen Sherri at WrestleMania 6.
3 John Cena: The Boy Scout Of The 21st Century
Everyone Can See His Great Character
Title | No. of Reigns | Cumulative No. of Days |
|---|---|---|
WWE Heavyweight Title | 13 | 1,254 |
WWE World Heavyweight Title | 3 | 154 |
WWE United States Title | 5 | 403 |
WWE World Tag Team Title | 2 | 70 |
There's a reason why John Cena was the poster boy of the WWE for over a decade. The timing of Cena's ascent was absolutely perfect, as Mr. Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect was the squeaky-clean icon that the WWE needed for its PG era.
Certainly, Cena had his share of un-gentlemanly moments, including some naughty moments with then-SmackDown GM Stephanie McMahon. This, however, doesn't outweigh Cena's kindness towards kids and the elderly - a kindness that has been caught on camera countless times.
2 Rey Mysterio: Dial 619 For Chivalry

Eddie Guerrero | WWE Tag Team Title | 57 days |
Batista | WWE Tag Team Title | 14 days |
Dominik Mysterio | WWE SmackDown Tag Team Title | 63 days |
If you pause for a moment and try to think of Rey Mysterio as a villainous persona, you might be scrambling your brains really hard. For the vast majority of his 34-year career, Mysterio has fought with honor and respected fans, friends, and adversaries alike.
Notwithstanding his short run with heel team The Filthy Animals, the master of the 619 has been a role model for gentlemen. On more than one occasion, Mysterio has defended the honor of his wife and family - even when the hostile force was his own reprehensible son.

Ricky Steamboat is the fellow that other men want to be and scores of women fall in love with. His rugged good looks are complemented by his admirable etiquette throughout the course of his career.
Steamboat's image as the consummate gentleman was on full display every time he went up against long-time rival Ric Flair. Whereas Flair bragged about partying and living a bachelor's lifestyle, Steamboat stayed grounded as a humble family man who upheld morals in the ring. Indeed, there was no need for Steamboat to discard integrity as his excellent in-ring skills carried him to a successful career.
