This era has no official start date, some say it was at King Of The Ring 1996 with the birth of Austin 3:16, others say it was the Montreal Screwjob that marked the beginning of this era, and it is also said that the first PPV of the Attitude Era was WrestleMania 13.

The Attitude Era saw the birth of legends such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, and Triple H, who led a stacked roster, with great storylines and memorable matches. Without further ado, here are the 10 best matches of WWE’s Attitude Era, according to Dave Meltzer.

10 Kurt Angle Vs. Steve Austin – SummerSlam 2001 (4.5 Stars)

At SummerSlam 2001, WWE Champion Stone Cold Steve Austin defended the title against Kurt Angle. This was a fast-paced, intense and violent 23-minute affair. Austin and Angle put body and soul into this match and pushed each other to their limits. The character work was excellent, the fans were hot, and the in-ring action was tremendous. In the end, Kurt Angle won the match by disqualification, and fans don't like these types of finishes, but on this occasion, it made sense.

9 Christian & Edge Vs. The Hardy Boyz Vs. The Dudley Boyz – SummerSlam 2000 (4.5 Stars)

This was the first-ever Tables, Ladders, And Chairs match, and Vince McMahon couldn’t have picked better teams to be involved. Christian and Edge, The Dudley Boyz and The Hardy Boyz were the perfect equation to produce a memorable match, that changed tag team wrestling forever. This was an absolute spectacle, with awesome spots, something never seen before. Every man involved seized the opportunity to shine, and therefore the match was epic. Christian and Edge won this historic bout and retained the World Tag Team Titles.

8 Triple H Vs. Cactus Jack – Royal Rumble 2000 (4.5 Stars)

This was a street fight for the WWE Championship, and frankly this is arguably the best street fight in WWE history. Triple H and Cactus Jack fought mercilessly, using weapons and doing whatever it took to win. It was a chaotic and brutal brawl in which both men looked super tough, taking an unimaginable amount of pain and telling the story perfectly. In the end it was Triple H who prevailed to retain the gold.

7 Triple H Vs. Cactus Jack – No Way Out 2000 (4.5 Stars)

The following month, at No Way Out 2000, Triple H and Cactus Jack faced off again, this time in a Hell In A Cell match. Once again, they delivered an all-time classic. It was a brutal war, with breathtaking spots and sickening bumps. Triple H sent Cactus Jack through the cell, straight into the ring, landing horribly. But that wasn't enough, so HHH hit his Pedigree to defeat Foley and retain the WWE Title. This was one of the best Hell In A Cell matches of all time, and this was a feud for the ages.

6 The Undertaker Vs. Mankind – King Of The Ring 1998 (4.5 Stars)

Speaking of legendary Hell In A Cell matches, the match between The Undertaker and Mankind at King Of The Ring 1998 always comes to mind. Mankind endured one of the most brutal beatings in sports entertainment history, which is admirable.

The Undertaker showed no mercy and made sure to put Mankind to rest in peace, especially with two horrific, unforgettable falls from the top of the cell. This is one of the most insane matches in WWE history, and the commentary by Jim Ross and the incredulous fans made for a perfect atmosphere.

5 Steve Austin Vs. The Rock – WrestleMania 17 (4.5 Stars)

Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock had one of the best rivalries in WWE history. Two larger-than-life characters collided in a No Disqualification match in the main event of the biggest stage of them all. The build to the match was incredible, and the match itself did not disappoint at all.

Stone Cold and The Rock fought with intensity from start to finish, never slowing down, performing amazing spots and perfect sequences, with flawless character work. After a barrage of chair shots, Austin pinned The Rock to win the match and become WWE Champion. Frankly, this match deserved five stars, but sometimes it's hard to understand Dave Meltzer.

4 Steve Austin Vs. Triple H – No Way Out 2001 (4.75 Stars)

Stone Cold Steve Austin and Triple H had a tremendous rivalry, and the build to their match at No Way Out 2001 couldn't have been better. This was a Three Stages Of Hell match. The first stage was a standard wrestling match, which Stone Cold won after hitting his Stunner, the second stage was a street fight, which Triple H won after a sledgehammer shot and a Pedigree.

Finally, the third stage was inside the Steel Cage, where they fought with the rest of their strength. Austin kicked out of the Pedigree, Triple H kicked out of the Stunner, and the ending couldn't have been more dramatic, as they both hit each other at the same time and both collapsed, but HHH fell on top of Austin.... 1-2-3! Triple H is the winner.

3 Christian & Edge Vs. The Dudley Boyz Vs. The Hardy Boyz – WrestleMania 17 (4.75 Stars)

Earlier it was mentioned how important the first TLC match was and how spectacular it was. Well, somehow, these six men managed to outperform themselves and delivered an even better, more spectacular and more mind-blowing match. In fact, this is arguably the best tag team match in the history of sports entertainment. Once again, Christian and Edge were the ones who survived this incredible battle.

2 Shawn Michaels Vs. The Undertaker – In Your House 18 (5 Stars)

Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker had so much chemistry, and that's precisely why they delivered all-time classics at WrestleMania 25, WrestleMania 26, and In Your House 18: Bad Blood. This was a practically perfect Hell In A Cell match, with brilliant storytelling, correct booking, brutality and jaw-dropping spots, this match had it all. With that said, Dave Meltzer did the right thing by giving it a five-star rating.

At WrestleMania 13, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Bret Hart completely stole the show, delivering the best match of the Attitude Era and one of the best matches in wrestling history. This was a masterpiece, with a simple story, but told to perfection. Austin and Hart did a flawless job in every aspect, in offense, selling, and character work. They even revived a dead crowd, oh boy, what a phenomenal, unforgettable match.
